77500 Fernando (Avenida) DPR 523L (09/2013) Identifier: CRM TECH 1885-30 Date Constructed: 1950 UTM Zone: 11S, 564063 mE / 3727738 mN Neighborhood: N/A Tract: N/A Owner and Address: Alhambra Drake; PO Box 13315 311, Oakland CA 94661 Updated Description: The 77500 Avenida Fernando residence was constructed in 1950 north of the La Quinta Resort and Club. A 12 foot high garden privacy wall was constructed in 2002 and the property is no longer visible from the public right-of-way. The previous property description from 2006 described the property as one-story, Spanish Styled Ranch single-family residence that faces south from the north side of Avenida Fernando. The wood-framed, rectangular residence was topped by a medium-pitched, side-gabled roof flanked by simple hip masses, all covered with clay tiles. Narrow, open eaves with exposed rafters shelter walls sheathed in stucco, and a massive, brick end wall chimney with window-like openings at the top was found at the west end of the side- gabled mass. Fenestration consisted of steel-framed casement and fixed windows, and an open veranda supported by six square, wood posts is found on the balanced façade. A detached garage and swimming pool were extant on the property, which was surrounded by a high wall and hedges. It is unclear if any substantial alterations were made to the property since 2006 due to the privacy wall. Updated Significance: A prior survey evaluated the property as status code 6Z - found ineligible for NRHP, CRHR, and Local Register designation. The current survey found that the dwelling is associated with the theme of Residential Development (1934- 1970s), but it does not possess individual documented significance in relation to this theme. The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible Criterion B/2/B, as it has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional, state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. It is unclear if the property retains historic integrity due to a lack of visibility from the public right-of-way.
