Identifier: CRM TECH 1885-160 Date Constructed: 1961
UTM Zone: 11S, 565337 mE / 3730153 mN
Neighborhood: Highland Palms
Tract: TR 02043; Recorded September 30, 1960, MB 41/7
Owner and Address: William Walker & Cameron Family Trust, William M. Walker; 46410 Cameo Palms Drive, La Quinta Ca 92253
Updated Description: The 46410 Cameo Palms Drive residence was constructed in 1961 in the Highland Palms neighborhood.
CRM Tech described the property as a Modern style single-family residence in 2006. Urbana staff conclude that residence more
specifically displays the characteristics of a Tract Ranch style residential property with Custom elements built by the Macco
Corporation. The single-family dwelling with an attached garage has an asymmetrical facade and has an irregular floorplan atop a
concrete foundation. The low-pitched cross-gable roof is topped with asphalt and gravel and has minimal eave overhang, boxed
eaves, and exposed rafter beams. The exterior is clad in stucco painted in tan. The fenestration throughout the property consists of
vinyl sliding sash windows, flush doors, single-lite glass doors and vinyl glass sliding doors. A stone paver path provides access to
recessed main entryway and features double wood-framed single-lite glass doors and a vinyl sliding sash window. A brick chimney
painted in white is located on the rear elevation. A shed roof extension is located towards the far north end of the main (west)
elevation. The attached garage features a flat roof and a white panel overhead door. While the essential form of the structure has
remained intact, a renovation between 2006 and 2022 replaced most windows and doors throughout the dwelling and repainted the
exterior. However, the dwelling has not been substantially altered since the historic period.
Updated Significance: A prior survey evaluated the property as status code 6Z - found ineligible for NRHP, CRHR, and Local
Register designation. The current survey found that the dwelling is associated with the theme of Residential Development (1934-
1970s), but it does not possess individual documented significance in relation to this theme. It was one of the earliest homes built
within the Highland Palms residential subdivision by the Macco Corporation, but the subdivision is not proposed as a historic district.
The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with
significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible Criterion B/2/B, as it has
not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does not
embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion
D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional,
state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it
was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. As the dwelling has not been substantially altered, this
dwelling maintains integrity from the historic period.
