Approval of Appropriation of Redevelopment Agency PUBLIC HFARING:
Project Area No.1 Funds for Traffic Signal Improve-
ments at the Intersection of Washington Street and the
north entrance to Ralph's Shopping Center
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve appropriation of $73,710 in Redevelopment Agency Project Area No.1 RDA-PA1) Funds
for traffic signal improvements at the intersection of Washington Street and the north entrance to
Ralph's Shopping Center.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
The total cost for the traffic signal improvements located at the intersection of Washingtion Street and
the north entrance to Ralph's Shopping Center is $147,420, as outlined in Attachment 1. The funding
for these improvements are to come from Redevelopment Agency Project Area 1 RDA-PA1) Funds
$73,710) and developer contributions $73,710). RDA-PA1 Funds are currently available for these
improvements.
BACKGROUND:
Staff has begun the design of traffic signal improvements at the intersection of Washington Street and
the north entrance to Ralphs. A condition of approval for the development of the shopping center
located at the north east intersection of Washington Street and Calle Tamp ico required the construction
of traffic signal improvements at its north entrance. 50% of the costs for the traffic sign? improvement
are to be funded from RDA-PA#1 and 50% from the developer north of the shopping center. It is
unknown when development of this property will occur. Therefore, it is anticipated that the developer
contribution portion of funding for this project wiH not be immediately available. Until this land is
developed and the developer contribution becomes available to the City, this funding needs to be
appropriated now from the Infrastructure Fund. Once the land develops, the Infrastructure Fund will
be reimbursed.
Other
It is estimated that the plans and specifications for this traffic signal improvement will be ready for
Council approval within the next 60 to 90 days. Once approved by the City Council, construction of
