There is no other facility addressing this need in River- side County. We are entering Escrow on a property and plan to be in operation by late spring 1990. Please see enclosed picture and information. Even tho located in Palm Springs, your financial involve- ment in this facility would help you meet your require- ments for Affordable and Low-cos Housing. We request the city of La Quinta to sponsor 2 rooms at Desert Transition House at a cost of Zl0,000. per room for 4 years. dispersed on a yearly basis). Non-pZofif ID #S1O1Z9S2Z DESERT TRANSITION HOUSE STATEMENT OF INTENT It is our intent to establish a transition house for the homeless in and for the desert communities. It will be a link in the chain between emergency shelters and shared or private housing; designed to move families from Welfare to taxpayer. We plan a program of supportive environment, job training and child care. Our first priority is to be families. Referrals from House of Hope, 60 day shelters, Mental Health and RCCADV will be interviewed, if possible, 2 weeks prior to entry. Rent will be based on ability to pay. Willingness to be gainfully employed, work the programs offered and become involved as a part of the group will be encouraged. Financing of the transition house will be sought from Soroptimist Clubs, local merchants, service clubs, private donations, County and Federal agencies. it is our intent to solicit pledges to cover operating expenses. Staffing of paid personnel will be done by Board interview. Volunteers will be sought from within the community public library, mental health, school systems, city and county agencies). A Board of Directors will be comprised of 1 to 3 appointed members from each participating organization. This Board will be empowered to conduct the business of the Desert Transition House.
