Att: Dept. of Redevelopment Re: Desert Transition House
We are a community service group presently involved in
establishing housing for the homeless centered in and for
the desert communities.
There is no other facility addressing this need in River-
side County. We are entering Escrow on a property and
plan to be in operation by late spring 1990. Please see
enclosed picture and information.
Even tho located in Palm Springs, your financial involve-
ment in this facility would help you meet your require-
ments for Affordable and Low-cos Housing.
We request the city of La Quinta to sponsor 2 rooms at
Desert Transition House at a cost of Zl0,000. per room for
4 years. dispersed on a yearly basis). These monies would
be used to purchase and pay-down on the property.
We will be offering on-premises child care, job training,
literacy and parenting classes designed to move people
from Welfare to tax payer.
Thank you for your involvement in this very worthy project
and we hope to hear from you soon.

DESERT TRANSITION HOUSE
STATEMENT OF INTENT
It is our intent to establish a transition house for the homeless in and for the desert
communities.
It will be a link in the chain between emergency shelters and shared or private
housing; designed to move families from Welfare to taxpayer.
We plan a program of supportive environment, job training and child care.
Our first priority is to be families. Referrals from House of Hope, 60 day shelters,
Mental Health and RCCADV will be interviewed, if possible, 2 weeks prior to entry.
Rent will be based on ability to pay. Willingness to be gainfully employed, work the
programs offered and become involved as a part of the group will be encouraged.
Financing of the transition house will be sought from Soroptimist Clubs, local
merchants, service clubs, private donations, County and Federal agencies. it is our
intent to solicit pledges to cover operating expenses.
Staffing of paid personnel will be done by Board interview. Volunteers will be sought
from within the community public library, mental health, school systems, city and
county agencies).
A Board of Directors will be comprised of 1 to 3 appointed members from each
participating organization. This Board will be empowered to conduct the business of
the Desert Transition House.
