MONDAY, APRIL 10, 2017
CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the La Quinta Community Services Commission was called to
order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Johnson.
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Commissioners Chiapperini, Quill, Simonds, Lambert and Chair Johnson
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chair Johnson led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA – None
ANNOUNCEMENTS, PRESENTATIONS, AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
1. TOUR TO VIEW THE 2017 LA QUINTA ARTS FESTIVAL ART PURCHASE [the
meeting will move to the Wellness Center, 78450 Avenida La Fonda and then
the Library, 78275 Calle Tampico for the tour, and return to at 5:54 p.m. City
Hall for the remainder of the meeting].
REPORTS AND INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
1. COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AND WELLNESS REPORT – MARCH 2017
Presented by Manager Larson.
2. FACILITES REPORT
Presented by Superintendent Ambriz
• XPARK UPDATE
o New scope due in August
o Facebook page
• COVE OASIS TRAILHEAD PARKING
o Encroachment permits being issued for use of CVWD property located at
Calle Tecate and Avenida Bermudas
3. YOUTH INVOLVEMENT
• Engaging community partners and collecting feedback from YMCA, Boys and
Girls Club, La Quinta HS, etc…
• Target high school teens
• Require a 1 year commitment

5. ART ENTRYWAYS REPORT OUT
Presented by Manager Larson.
• Council concurred with the Commission regarding Art Entryways
• Possible funding source: CIP
CONSENT CALENDAR (MOTION REQUIRED)
1. APPROVE MINUTES OF MARCH 13, 2017
Motion: A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Chiapperini/Simonds to
approve the March 13, 2017 Community Service Commission minutes as submitted.
Motion passed: ayes 4, noes 0 abstain1 (Lambert).
BUSINESS SESSION (DISCUSSION THEN MOTION)
1. APPOINT COMMISSIONERS FOR ANNUAL PICNIC AND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Motion: A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Quill/Chiapperini to
appoint Commissioners Chiapperini, Quill, Lambert and Chair Johnson to assist in the
City’s annual picnic and birthday celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Civic
Center Campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
2. CANCEL THE AUGUST 14, 2017 COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Motion: A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Chiapperini/Quill to
cancel the August 14, 2017 Community Service Commission meeting. Motion passed
unanimously.
COMMISSIONER’S ITEMS
1. A COMMUNITY THRIVES GRANT – CV TREK (CHAIR JOHNS0N)
2. DESERT EX 2019 (COMMISSIONER SIMONDS)
3. THE GEM – PRIORITIZING CITY SUBMITALS TO ENSURE THAT CITY EVENTS ARE
PUBLISHED (COMMISSIONER QUILL).
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, it was moved and seconded by Commissioners
Chiapperini/Simonds adjourn the meeting at 6:45 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
