Public Notices
The La Quinta Library is handicapped accessible. If special equipment is needed for the
hearing impaired, please call the City Clerk’s office at 777-7103, twenty-four (24) hours in
advance of the meeting and accommodations will be made.
If special electronic equipment is needed to make presentations to the City Council,
arrangements should be made in advance by contacting the City Clerk’s office at 777-
7103. A one (1) week notice is required.
If background material is to be presented to the Councilmembers during a City Council
meeting, please be advised that eight (8) copies of all documents, exhibits, etc., must be
supplied to the City Clerk for distribution. It is requested that this take place prior to the
beginning of the meeting.
Any writings or documents provided to a majority of the City Council regarding any item(s)
on this agenda will be made available for public inspection at the City Clerk’s Office at City

Current Mosquito‐related threats to Valley
•2 locally transmitted arboviruses:
―West Nile virus (WNV)
―St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLE)
•In 2017 to date:
―60 mosquito samples tested positive for WNV; mostly
in East Valley, but also Thousand Palms and Palm
Desert
―0 tested positive for (SLE)
―District increased surveillance and control efforts in
response
•In 2016:
―Total 19 WNV and 92 SLE-positive mosquito samples
―19 WNV-related deaths in CA
Current Mosquito‐related threats to Valley
•Invasive Aedes Mosquito
―NOT Native – introduced to an area when brought in
inadvertently via transported goods.
―Coachella Valley - Invasive Aedes has been found in 4 cities –
Cathedral City, Coachella, Indio, and Palm Springs
•Unique to invasive Aedes mosquitoes:
―small black and white striped
―bite during the day
―lay eggs in small containers that hold water
―prefer humans and backyard habitats
―potential to transmit viruses including dengue, chikungunya,
Zika, and yellow fever
•Fastest increase in detections in Palm Springs - stepping up
surveillance/control efforts in response.

How La Quinta can help
Educate residents to:
•Avoid going outdoors at dawn and dusk.
•Wear repellent and dress in long‐sleeve shirts and long pants.
•Be aware of black and white day‐biting mosquitoes and cover
up.
•Install screen windows and doors.
•Repair damaged screens.
•Dump and Drain!!!!!
•Report Mosquito activity to District.
