RE-EXAMINATION IN TWO YEARS INSTEEL 3 -DTR WALL PANELS INSTEEL CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS, INC. 2610 SIDNEY LANIER DRIVE BRUNSWICK, GEORGIA 31525 I. SUBJECT: Insteel 3-DTM Wall Panels. 11. PROPERTIES FOR WHiCH EVALUATION 1S SOUGHT. A. Structural Performance. B. Fire Resistance. iiI, DESCRIPTION: A. General: The Insteel 3-D Wall Panels are used in the construction of exterior and interior bearing and nonload bearing walls o1 buildings. The Insteel 3.0 Wall Panel consists of a three-dimensional welded -wire space frame integrated with a polystyrene insulation core. The reinforce- menVinsulaiion module is placed in position and wythes of concrete are applied to both sides. See Figure No. 1. The 3-D wall panel receives its Strength and rigidity by the diagonal cross wires welded to the welded -wire fabric on each side. This produces a truss behavior which provides rigidity and shear transfer for full com- posite behavior. The insulation core is Type I polystyrene foam (Complying with ASTM C 578) having a nominal density of 1.0 pounds per cubic toot as manufac- tured by the Carpenter Insulation Company or Cellofoam North America Inc. The insulation demonstrated a flame -spread index of 25 or less and a smoke -developed rating of 450 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84. When tested in accordance with NFiPA 259, the insulations demonstrated a potential new of 6000 BTU/sq. ft. or less. The reinforcement module (RIM) is shop fabricated with automated equipment. The welded -wire labric conforms to ASTM A 185. The diago- nal cross wires as well as wire used in the fabrication o1 the welded -wire fabric conform to ASTM A 82. Five different configurations of RIM are manufactured. as shown in Figures Nos. 2, 3A. and 6 at the end of this report. Figure No. 2 shows the standard panel, which has 21/2 inches of insulation and a RIM thickness of 4 inches. With 11/2 -inch concrete wytnes, the overall wall thickness is 51/2 inches. For walls which require less insulation or structural capacity, the "Mini- mum 3•D" section of Figure No. 3 is available. For cases where greater strength and bearing capacity are required, the configurations shown in Figures Nos. 4 and No. 5 are available. For cases where lesser strength and bearing capacity are required. the configuration shown in Figure No. 6 is available B. Martin. P.E. Test reports included are as follows: Foundation wall, footing or other supporting structure to receive Insteel 3.0 panels shall be level and free of dirt and loose material. Reinforcement for anchoring panel to support shall be as shown on drawings. The Insteel 3.0 panels shall be placed in the final location plumb and true in location and alignment shown on drawings. Panels shall be tempo- rarily braced as required to resist wind and the shotcreting operation. Embedded hardware and accessories shown on drawings shall be installed in proper location and securely fastened by wires or other appropriate means. Concrete shall be applied to the outside and inside of the Insteel 3-0 panel to thickness shown on drawings. The exterior and interior wythes shall be ponland cement concrete applied by the "shotcrete" process by either "dry" or "wet" process in accordance with the provisions of the Guide to Shotcrete (ACI 506R-85) and Specification for Materials, Propor- tioning, and Application of Shotcrete (ACI 506.2-77) (Revised 1983). Materials shall conform to Chapter 2 of those documents. Additionally, aggregate shall be "Gradation No. 1." Table 2.1 of ACI 506R-85 and con- crete compressive strength shall be not less than f'c = 2,500 psi at 28 days. In areas where the Uniform Building Code has been adopted, shot- crete application shall also comply with Section 2621 of the Uniform Building Code. Higher strength concrete and/or air entrainment snail be used, as required by the applicable code. under certain exposure condi- tions. Special care shall be taken to assure complete filing of space between the insulation and welded -wire fabric. The shotcrete cover over the welded -wire fabric shall not be less than 3/4 inch with a minus toler- ance of 1/4 inch. The interior and exterior finishes shall be applied as shown on the draw- ings and in accordance with the applicable Code. An evaluation of such finishes is beyond the scope of this report. The manufacturer's published installation instructions, Publication 1.6. dated August 8. 1991, plus the plans and specifications shall be strictly adhered to and a copy of these instructions shall be available at all times on the jobsite during installation. B. Quality Control_ Quality control and inspection of shotcrete shall be in accordance with Section 1.6 of ACI 506.2.77. Section 6.4 and Chapter 9 of ACI 506R-85 (Revised 1983), and Section 2621 oftne Uniform Build- ing Code (in areas where the Uniform Building Code has been adopted). The results shall be made avaiiable to the local authority having jurisdic- tion. Allowable construction tolerances shall be as noted in the Specifica- tions for Structural Concrete for Buildings (ACI 301). Additional quality control and inspection requirements for shotcrete, from those outlined above, shall be determined 5y the design professional (subject to approval by the building official), taking into account the size and character of the application. A higher degree of quality control and inspection shall be administered on exterior bearing, exterior nonload- bearing, and interior bearing walls exceeding 12 feet in height between lat- eral supports. Additionally, in areas where the SOCA National Building Code has been adopted, Quality control and inspection shall be adminis- tered as "special inspection," unless exempted by Section 1308.1 of that code.
