CULTURAL COMMISSION
MINUTES
December 18, 1997
I. CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Cultural Commission was called to order at 12:00 noon in the Study Session Room of
the La Quinta Civic Center. Chairperson Hull presided over the meeting.

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. It was moved by Commissioner Atkins/Detlie to approve the Minutes of November 12, 1997 as submitted.
Unanimous.
It was moved by Commissioner Welch/Atkins to approve the Minutes of November 20, 1997 as submitted.
Unanimous.
B. Monthly Department Report for November 1997 - Received and filed.

VI. BUSINESS ITEMS
A. Presentation by La Quinta Arts Foundation
Chairperson Hull introduced Richard DeSantis and Susan Francis of the La Quinta Arts Foundation. Mr.
DeSantis thanked the Commission for their work on the Cultural Plan. Mr. DeSantis also gave a brief
description of the plans of the Arts Foundation.
B. Cultural Plan
The Commission discussed the Plan and the presentation of the Plan to community organizations.
Chairperson Hull reported that the Art in Public Places Commission commented on the need for a Youth
Committee and a cultural map. The Commission agreed to add the Parks & Recreation Commission and
Planning Commission to the list of organizations being asked to review the Plan.

C. Consideration of Attendance at 1997-98 Conferences
Chairperson Hull asked that this item be put on the March agenda, or sooner if additional information
becomes available.
D. Status Update on Commission Information on the Web Page
Mark Weiss gave a brief update on the Web Page.
E. Commissioner Correspondence
Commissioner Atkins requested a letter be sent to Alice Bell.
VII. CORRESPONDENCE AND WRITTEN MATERIALS
A. Correspondence From Americans for the Arts - Received and filed.
The Commission requested that this item be agendized for January.
VIII. COMMISSIONER ITEMS
Commissioner Benay asked about CVAG's 2020 Plan in relation to culture. Staff will investigate and update
the Commission.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner WelchlDetlie to adjourn the Cultural Commission meeting. Motion carried
unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 12:55 p.m.
