Identifier: 773164002 Date Constructed: 1936
UTM Zone: 11S, 563686 mE; 3726022 mN
Neighborhood: The Cove
Tract: Santa Carmelita Unit No 2; Recorded February 28, 1934, MB 18/56
Owner and Address: Lissette Gonzalez; 51782 Avenida Obregon, La Quinta CA 92253
Updated Description: The 51782 Avenida Obregon residence was constructed in 1936 in the La Quinta Cove neighborhood. The
one story single family home was constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style with an "I" shaped plan. The home has a low
pitched cross gable roof clad in red tiles. The exterior is clad in stucco. Since the previous survey, the subject property has been
surrounded by a high privacy wall, and red tile awnings have been added above the windows at the front elevation. The detached
garage was added after initial construction though no permits were located to determine the date of its installation. There do not
appear to have been any other significant alterations to the residence, however, the wall makes this determination difficult.
Updated Significance: This dwelling is a contributor to the La Quinta Cove Thematic Historic District which is considered eligible
under Local Criterion B (events) for its association with the Residential Development theme. The Cove district is also considered
eligible under Local Register Criterion A (special element) as the first residential subdivision within the boundaries of the city
constructed with Spanish Revival style homes and eligible under Local Register Criterion E as a geographically definable area
possessing a concentration of buildings, structures, and improvements linked historically. The dwelling appears to retain integrity
from the 1935 to 1950 period of significance for the Cove. Because the district is not formally designated, it is assigned a 5D2 status
code: Contributor to a multi-component resource that is eligible for local listing or designation.
The dwelling has not been found individually eligible under NRHP/CRHR/Local Criterion A/1/B, as it has not been associated with
significant events or patterns of events in local, regional, state, or national history; not individually eligible under Criterion B/2/B, as it
has not been identified as having an association with an important person; not individually eligible under Criterion C/3/C, as it does
not embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction; and not individually eligible under Criterion
D/4/D, as further study of the dwelling would not appear to yield information which could be considered important in local, regional,
state, or national history. Additionally, the property was not found to be individually eligible under Local Register Criterion A, as it
was not found to exemplify a special element of the City of La Quinta. Due to limited visibility during the current survey, the full
extent of alterations to the fenestration could not be determined, but the dwelling retains its essential form from initial construction.

A good example of Spanish Colonial Revival style ranch home built in this neighborhood in 1935. This "I"
shaped house has a very low pitched red tile roof, with original within -gable vertical wood siding still intact. It
is coated with stucco. Sash windows and original rustic -looking wood door (left of center) that are typical of
these homes appear intact (all windows and door are covered by decorative security bars). Original doors in
the neighborhood feature "Z" timbering and decorative iron plate that covers a peep hole. At the right wing is
the garage with original wooden doors with upper vents. Characteristic of these houses is a central open
"court" at front, with only one small projecting wall (from the garage side) to slightly enclose it. As seen from
the front, a short chimney projects from the back center of the house. To the left is a newer, larger garage,
with possibly other rooms to the back of it. The yard depicts a desert environment, with dirt instead of grass,
and rocks and bushes along walkways. A low tree is at the front "court."
