Redwood City's Proposal for services to La Quinta, CA
01/27/2006
Background
The city of La Quinta is located 30 minutes outside of Palm Springs with a population of
over 30,000. La Quinta operates three buildings, the Civic Center, the
Community/Senior center, and the Public Works building. There are approximately 100
network nodes (Servers, workstations, printers, etc) in use for City employees.
Connectivity between City Hall, Senior Center, and Public Works Yard is through a
combination of cable modems and DSL connections.
Problem
The city currently has a LANIWAN running primarily on 3Com switches. These switches
are not able to support the next generation of IP telephony services for Power over
Ethernet (PoE) and Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN). Lack of these key
functionalities will result in unsuccessful deployment of a pure IP telephony system.
Solution
Replace the existing network switches with new network switches that will support PoE
and VLAN technologies. The system will also allow for expandability and include many
features not currently present in your existing system.
Scope
Redwood City proposes the following services to the City of La Quinta:
1. Analyze and document the City of La Quinta's current computer network
infrastructure.

4. Be the main point of contact for responding vendors when clarity within a

addresses.
