Subject: Minor Use Permit 2000-210 Wildflower Grand Opening BBQ
Dear Mr. Stittsworth,
The Community Development Department has approved your application for a 2 -day May
6 and 7, 2000) grand opening Bar-B-Que event, pursuant to Section 9.60.170 of the
Zoning Code. The event is to be held on Lots 20 & 21 of Tract 5691 (Wildflower), on
Morning Glory Court. This approval is subject to the attached Exhibit A and the following
conditions:
1. The applicant/developer agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless of the City
of La Quinta from any legal claim or litigation arising out of the City's approval of this
application. The City of La Quinta shall have the right to select its defense counsel
at its sole discretion.

The event shall be confined to the driveway and front yard areas of Lots 20 and 21.
This approval is valid for Saturday and Sunday, May 6 and 7, 2000, from the hours
of 11 amto5p.m.
No new signs or advertising devices are part of this approval.
Adequate trash receptacles shall be maintained during the event.
One 25' by 40' shade canopy shall be permitted with tables and chairs underneath.
Sanitation facilities shall be made available on-site for the duration of the event.
The site shall be left clean of any litter at the close of the event.
Parking for the event shall occur along street -side curbs.

10. Permits for temporary electrical facilities shall be obtained from the Building and
Safety Department prior to installation or use.
11. The event organizer shall comply with the following Riverside County Fire
Department conditions. All questions regarding the meaning of these conditions
should be referred to the Fire Department Planning and Engineering staff at (760)
863-8886.
a. All tent and canopy setups must meet the requirements of the 1998
California Fire Code.
b. Tents must be separated from any property line, building, other tent, or
temporary membrane structure by a minimum distance of 20 feet.
C. Fire access roadways must be provided.
d. The minimum clearance of 20 feet must be maintained from the parking of
automobiles or other internal combustion engines.
e. For the purposes of required distances, support ropes and guywires are to
be considered part of the tent.
f. Tents and canopies shall be adequately roped, braced, and anchored to
withstand the elements of weather against collapsing.
g. The sidewalls, drops, and tops of all tents and canopies shall be of flame-
retardant. material. All decorations used must be flame retardant to the
satisfaction of the Fire Marshal. This includes all paper, cardboard, cloth,
plastic, or other materials more than 1/4" thick, used for the purposes of
decoration or display. Materials used for table coverings shall be
noncombustible or the entire table covering must be flame retardant.
h. Tents and canopies shall have a permanently affixed label with the following
information:
Identification of temporary membrane structure, tent, or canopy, size
and fabric, or material type. For flame -resistant materials, the
necessary information to determine compliance with the Fire Code.
For flame -retardant -treated materials, the 'date that the temporary
membrane structure, tent or canopy and other combustible materials
were last treated with an approved flame retardant. The trade name
and type of flame retardant utilized in the flame-retardant treatment.

The name of the person and firm that applied the flame retardant.
I. Hay bales, straw. and other flammable materials shall not be within 30 feet
of any tent or canopy. Hay bales; etc. if placed inside or on top of the tent,
must be flame retardant.
j. Balloons or other similar devices that are filled with toxic or flammable gases
are not permitted. .
k. All flame-retardant certificates shall be retained on the premises. All
flameproofing is subject to testing and.approval from the Fire Marshal.
I. Smoking shall not be permitted in any tent or canopy or in any adjacent
areas where hay, straw, sawdust or any other combustible materials are
stored or used unless approved by the fire inspector. NO SMOKING signs
shall be posted when required.
.m. No fireworks, open flame, or any device emitting flame or fire or creating a
glow capable of igniting combustible materials shall be used in or adjacent
to any tent.
n. . The minimum fire extinguisher coverage shall be provided in the canopy
shall be two 2A-1 OBC for up to 1,000 square feet of floor area..
o. All firefighting equipment shall be -provided and maintained at a height of 3
to -5 feet from .the floor in a visible and accessible location and may be
required to be posted with designating signs.
P. The required minimum clear width of exits, aisles, and passageways shall be
maintained at all times to a public way.
q. All heating and cooking equipment shall be in compliance with the 1997
Uniform Mechanical Code or shall be approved by the fire- inspector.
r.. . Cooking equipment shall be at least 30 feet away from any structure.
S. All extension cords shall be over current protected and or ground fault
interrupter protected. No additional taps are to be in any device. (NO
octopus, 2 way or 3 way taps, cube adapters or multi -plug extension cords).
Quad boxes are 'approved if wired with 12/3 gauge wire or grater. All
extension cords shall be of 12/3 .gauge wire or greater with approved
connection.

The City may impose additional conditions to this application to. mitigate any problems that
arise not previously addressed herein. This decision may be appealed to the Planning
Commission pursuant to Section 9.200.120 of the Zoning Code, provided the application
requirements are met within 15 days of the date of this letter. If you have any questions
