DATE: October 11, 2001
ITEM TITLE: Cultural Arts Symposium
RECOMMENDATION:
As deemed appropriate by the Cultural Arts Commission.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:
At the July 26, 2001 Cultural Arts Commission meeting, the Commission determined
that the City should sponsor a joint cultural event with the Riverside Arts Council, the
California Council for the Arts and the California Association of Local Arts Agencies.
The event will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the La Quinta City Hall. The
other agencies will be responsible for the program. The Cultural Arts Commission will
be responsible for providing the venue and refreshments for the event, as well as
providing a mailing list of possible attendees. An additional responsibility was given
to the City to provide lodging for the speakers from CALAA and the California Council
for the Arts. Commissioner Shamis is arranging for a donation of lodging for the
speakers.
The City Council has approved the use of City Hall for the event, and staff is arranging
the caterer. The caterer will be the same that was used last year. Food, soft drinks
and water will be provided with wine available for sale at $4.00 per glass.
Staff has provided the mailing list to the Riverside Arts Council and will take the
RSVPs for the event.
The Commission may wish to designate Commissioners to various tasks associated
with the Symposium such as greeters, people to ensure participants sign in, as well
as people to clean up after the event.
