You had mentioned that the site selected for this art piece is the La Quinta Park, located on the corner of Adams Street and Westward Ho. At this time, the Cultural Arts Commission has requested two art features for that location: a decorative fence around the park and a identification sign. The City Council has determined that due to the limited amount of Art in Public Places funds available, art pieces for the park site will be delayed. Although the Cultural Arts Commission would appreciate your time in presenting the information, the Commission will not be considering purchasing art work for the park site. Your presentation may be premature at this time. Thank you for your interest in the City of La Quinta's Art in Public Places program. Dodie Horvi 7,/ mmunity Services Director Attachment A'-'- Proposal by Mr. Langer S:\Community Services\CAComm\CACRPT.294.Langer Concert Proposalmpd Martin Langer Director • ATTACHMENT q January 8th, 2002 To: Don Adolph From Martin Langer Subject: LA QUINTA CIVIC MUSIC CONCERTS With the demise of Community Concerts we no longer enjoy any local professional performing arts programs - free or otherwise. To fill a need and solve this problem I offer the following plan which is consistent with perform- ing arts programming provided by most of the other desert communities: I propose we adopt and subsidize a municipal/civic series - admission free to residents - scheduled from May to September. These outdoor events would be staged and presented at the Middle School Amphitheatre. In terms of popular appeal, the series would offer family entertainment, multi/cultural and diverse musical programs. Personally serving as the concert coordinator, my organ- izaaton with its background -.and experience, offers the willingness and ability to bring this vision to fruition without interrupting the business rhythm of City Hall or saddling it with an additional work load. This important addition to the arts event calendar would serve to enhance the image of La Quinta and contribute to the quality of life here as well as a source of civic pride, representing an important cultural asset. The total cost of $25,000 would be all-inclusive with no hidden charges or extras (which includes talent, technicians, lights, sound, etc.) In conclusion; with -the adoption of this proposal, we would balance with the Arts Foundation, as a pair of cultural bookends, embracing the City and reflecting the world of good taste. This is an idea whose time has come! s 20 49994 El Circulo - La Quinta, CA 92253 33 Cool Brook - Irvine, CA 92612 (760)564-2111 (949)854-3314 • VI- BUSINESS ITEMS D MOF C CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING DATE: March 14, 2002 ITEM TITLE: Temporary Art Loan -John Kennedy RECOMMENDATION: As deemed appropriate by the Cultural Arts Commission.
