CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
DATE: January 9, 2003
ITEM TITLE: Spring Performing Arts Event
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:
At the December 12, 2002 Cultural Arts Commission meeting, the Commission
discussed offering a performing arts event at the amphitheater on the Civic Center
Campus on March 29, 2003. The Commission determined that the Side Street
Strutters could provide entertainment as well as a dance troupe from the McCallum
Theater and the event would end with a fireworks display.
The Commission asked that this information be provided to the City Council for
consideration. As of this meeting, staff has not received clearance from the fire
department or the fireworks company as to the location being proposed. Both the
fireworks company and fire department must evaluate the proposed location for
appropriateness for both the launching of the fireworks and the necessary clearances
needed. Once this information has been received, staff will forward the site request
to the City Council for consideration.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternatives available to the Commission are:
1 . Provide staff with alternate direction.

RE: various Stone Furniture Projects
ATTAr14Rfi1cNT A
Decem6cr 31, 2002
Dear Dodie, I am thrilled that the Art Commission is interested in placing some
boulder furniture in the upper Cove park area. It makes a lot of sense as the
mountains provide the proper back drop and environment for this type of
treatment, plus they would 6e virtually indcstructi6le and maintenance free. I have
attached some pictures of some recent work and price ranges for each piece.
These example arc only what 1 have presently on hand and we should not feel
limited to these designs only.

annual work plan approved by the City Council. This previously approved plan gives
direction to the Commission as to tasks the Council would like to see the Commission
complete. If the Commission would like to include the identification of the plaques
located throughout the City as a task in the 2003-04 Cultural Arts Commission work
plan, this information can be included in the draft work plan that will be presented to
the City Council in May.
