BUSINESS ITEMS A c&t!t 4 4Q9&rw CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MEETING DATE: June 12, 2003 ITEM TITLE: Potential La Quinta Court Art Piece RECOMMENDATION: As deemed appropriate by the Cultural Arts Commission. BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW: Commissioners Reynolds and Young would like to present potential art pieces for the La Quinta Court project. The current status of the modifications to the La Quinta Court art work is that a design contract is in the process to hire a landscape architect to provide two landscape modifications for consideration by the Cultural Arts Commission and ultimately the City Council. Attachment A is information provided by Commissioner Reynolds for consideration. Additional information will be presented by both Commissioners Reynolds and Young at the Commission meeting. ALTERNATIVES: The alternatives available to the Commission are: 1. Direct staff to provide this information once the landscaping modification has been approved by the City Council; or 2. Provide staff with direction. The color scheme selected is that of the City's seal as presented on the City's 20th Anniversary commemorative pin. Attachment A provides the 201h Anniversary pin artwork. Staff will contact the painter and have the art piece painted the colors as directed by the City Council. The City Council also suggested that a quail art piece be placed at the rainbow, thereby transforming the rainbow into the City seal. The Council directed staff to research interactive water features that shoot up from the surface rather than a structure. Staff has contacted four interactive water feature manufacturers for concepts and pricing.
