COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION
MINUTES
NOVEMBER 30, 1987
Regular meeting of the Community Services Commission was called
to order at the hour of 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Rothschild,
followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Commissioners Beck, Jaffy, Mendoza, Pina,

A. COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE
a. Suicide Hotline - No Report
b. Mr. Beck reported on the success of La
Quinta's participation in "Red Ribbon Week".
2. PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE
No Report
3. CULTURE & FINE ARTS COMMITTEE
Mrs. Mendoza reported on the success of Faire a
La Quinta and noted that the annual Arts Festival
and Jazz Festival is coming up.
A brief discussion ensued regarding the Jazz
Festival, with Chairman Rothschild reporting on
the most recent events, being a member of the
Chamber of Commerce Board - sponsors of the event.
Concern over such a sizable commitment of funds was
expressed.

REPORT

5. TIME CAPSULE UPDATE
No Report.
B. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF OCTOBER 26, 1987.
MOTION - It was moved by Commissioner Jaffy, seconded
by Commissioner Beck that the minutes be
approved. Motion carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Discussion Regarding Skate Boarding
Commissioner Beck commented on the need for
recreational activities for young adults in the
community. He has taken notice of the number of young
people who ride skateboard and estimated it be about
100. The noted the lack of areas in which skate boards
can be used and generally are being used in the streets
where it's unsafe. He suggested that a 25' x 50'
cement slab be poured in the park to be used for this
purpose. He suggested contacting the C. V. Recreation
and Park District about this.
The Commissioners concurred on referring this matter to
the Parks and Recreation Committee for study and report
back.
2. Discussion Regarding Mini-Parks.
Commissioner Beck reported on the City Council's study
session earlier this date in which it was suggested a an
area owned by C. V Water District at the end of
Chihuahua be leased for a park. Following discussion,
the Council concurred on exploring this idea as well as
continuing to look for a double lot in the cove.
3. OTHER BUSINESS
Commissioner Mendoza advised that she would like to
report on the Library Advisory Board at the next meeting.

Mrs. Juhola noted that the City's Open House will be
held December 16th.
The Commission concurred on canceling the December
meeting. The next meeting will be held January 25, 1988.
There being no further business, the meeting was
8:00 P.M. upon motion by Commissioner Jaffy,
Commissioner Mendoza and carried unanimously.
