COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION - CITY OF LA QUINTA
A regular meeting of the Community
Services Commission held at City Hall

March 31,1986

1 . CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.
2 . ROLL CALL
Members present were: Commissioners Beck, Griffith, Pina,
and Chairman Moran.
Members absent were: Commissioners DeGasperin, and Jaffy.

6. OLD BUSINESS
A. Moved by Commissioner Pina, seconded by Commissioner Beck,
to approve the Minutes of February 24, 1986. Unanimously
adopted.
B. Chairman Moran reported that much useful information
was presented regarding latch key children, but that
the number of community participants was very low.
He reviewed the various efforts made to provide public
notice. Commissioner Beck described the radio and television
coverage. Discussion followed regarding timing and
format.
7. NEW BUSINESS
A. Commissioner pina reported regarding a proposed La Quinta
Community Service Award. Categories could be for public
safety, outstanding youth, outstanding senior, outstanding
family, outstanding citizen or humanitarian. The program
could include a perpetual plaque and an annual banquet.
It would include input fr0m other community organizations.
Moved by Commissioner Pina, seconded by Commissioner
Griffith, to adopt the La Quinta Community Service
Awards program, and to request that the City Council
allocate $3,000 for the program, whci9h will be reimbursed

from receipts from the awards banquet. Commissioner
Pina asked if there was a master list of community
non-profit organizations. It was discussed that the
best'time would be in the fall.
B. Chairman Moran discussed the League Community Services
conference in San Diego.
8. ADJOURNMENT
A. Chairman Moran declared the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
