MARCH 25, 1991
Regular meeting of the Community Services Commission was called to
order at the hour of 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Molina.
PRESENT: Commissioners Benedict, Franke, Kennedy, Llewellyn and
Chairman Molina
ABSENT: (Two Vacancies)
PRESENTATIONS
a. Mayor Pena and Council Member Sniff spoke briefly regarding
the New Leaf Award program and the spirit of partnership
between the City and the schools. They then presented and
congratulated the receipients with Council Member Franklin
assisting.

PUBLIC COMMENT - None
OLD BUSINESS - None
COMMITl'EE REPORTS
1. PARKS & RECREATION COMMITl'EE REPORT
Commissioner Kennedy requested suggestions for Earth Day,
1991. The theme is "Keep America Beautiful".
Commissioner Llewellyn suggested a poster contest in the
schools on recycled material and the theme "Keep America
Clean" . It was also suggested that the Senior Center
make green ribbons and have them distributed around town
similar to "Red Ribbon Week".
MOTION - It was moved by Commissioners Kennedy/Llewellyn
to have a poster contest on the themes; Keep America
Beautiful and Recycling, having the Arts in Public Places
as the Judges, awarding Green Ribbons for 1st, 2nd and
3rd places. Motion carried unanimously.
Mrs. Juhola advised that she will make a written report
to the City Council
2. CULTURE & FINE ARTS COMMITl'EE REPORT
Commissioner Franke advised that six pieces of flat art
were purchased from the Arts Festival and are on display
in the Conference Room at City Hall.
3. HUMAN SERVICES COMMITl'EE
a. Discussion of Target Team.
Continued until April 29, 1991.
b. Report by Ed Locker - Truman School Student Council.
Continued until April 29, 1991.
c. Selection of La Quinta Beautiful for March, 1991.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 25, 1991.
Commissioner Franke advised that in the minutes of 2-25-91; "20
pieces of art work would be selected at the Arts Festival" should
have read "approximately 20 pieces of art work.............".
NEW BUSINESS
SAUNDRA JUHOLA, Administrative Services Director, advised that the
City is advertising for the two vacancies on this Commission. The
deadline for filing applications is April 26, 1991. Council will
interview applicants at their meeting on May 7th and make a
decision at their May 21st Council meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
MOTION - It was moved by Commissioners Franke/Llewellyn to adjourn.
Motion carried unanimously.
