COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION
MINUTES
FEBRUARY 8, 1993
CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Community Services Commission was called
to order at 7:00 p.m. in the La Quinta Council Chambers.
Chairwoman Kennedy presiding, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: Commissioner Norris Bernard
Commissioner Lawrence Best (Vice Chairman)
Commissioner Susan Francis
Commissioner Sharon Kennedy (Chairwoman)
Commissioner Nancy Nard
Commissioner B.J. Seaton
Absent: Commissioner Aldine Dickens
Staff Present: Clint Bohlen, Park & Recreation Manager
Cynthia Hernandez, Department Secretary
Chairwoman Kennedy stated she had received a note from Commissioner
Dickens stating she would not be able to attend tonight's meeting
and asked to be excused.
It was moved by Commissioner Bernard/Seaton to EXCUSE Commissioner
Aldine Dickens from the meeting. Motion carried.
1. INTRODUCTION OF NORRIS BERNARD, NEWLY APPOINTED COMMISSIONER
TO FILL UNEXPIRED TERM THROUGH JUNE 30, 1993
Chairwoman Kennedy introduced Norris Bernard as the newly appointed
Commissioner to the Community Services Commission to fill the
unexpired term through June 30, 1993. The Commissioners welcomed
Mr. Bernard to the Commission and indicated they look forward to
working him in the future.
Commissioner Bernard stated he was glad to be appointed. He
indicated he is a volunteer at the Eisenhower Immediate Care Center
in La Quinta, John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, the La Quinta
Chamber of Commerce where he is also an Ambassador and he is on the
Board of Directors, Eastern Valley Division of the American Heart
Association. He stated he looks forward to working with the
Commissioners and serving the residents of the City of La Quinta.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - JANUARY 25, 1993
It was moved by Commissioner Seaton/Nard to APPROVE the minutes of
January 25, 1993 as submitted.

were none.

Library, presented a report which included

The above referenced materials are what was purchased last year.
They will receive another list similar to the one included in the
packet that will show the books that are purchased. Mrs. Pena
stated they were trying to obtain a fax machine, however, it was
just too expensive for them. Mrs. Pena stated they will try to do
some fundraising that will go toward the building fund. Mrs. Pena
indicated her report is short, however, the funds are very much
appreciated on behalf of the library.
Chairwoman Kennedy thanked Mrs. Pena for her report.
