COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING
DATE: January 11, 1999
ITEM TITLE: Updates on Past Issues
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
The following issues have been raised by the Community Services Commission and
staff has addressed them:
1. Y2K: The City has contracted with Southwest Networks to evaluate the
City's computer system for possible Y2K problems. There is no
indication that the computer system will be impaired by the situation.
2. Art Smith Trail Head Marker: The Coachella Valley Water District
commissioned this piece at the Trail head. Staff has a call in to the
Coachella Valley Water District, as well as the Coachella Valley Trails
Council. Staff will report the findings when they become available.
3. Avenue 52 and Avenida Bermudas: This is City owned property. Staff
is checking into possible uses for that property.
4. School District/Sports Complex Repairs: A letter was sent to Desert
Sands Unified School District (Attachment A) as a reminder for the shade
structure repair. As of January 8, the canvas part of the structure had
been removed and presumably in for the necessary repairs.
5. Bear Creek Trail Rest Stops: The Bear Creek Trail was constructed with
grant funds. The rest stops are being funded by the Capital Improvement
Program.
A:\Update on Past Issues.wpd

6. Sand Volleyball Courts at Fritz Burns Park: The current improvements at
the park: the tennis court lights, wind screens, dasher boards and
benches and shade structures are being estimated at more than the
$100,000 that was budgeted. Staff will meet the week of January 11
to discuss priorities and methods of working within the established
budget.
Should a sand volleyball court be desired at the park, it will need to be
budgeted for in the upcoming fiscal year.
