BACKGROUND: At the November 13, 2000 Community Services Commission meeting, the Commission considered the public comments regarding the amenities for the Community Park. After some discussion the Commission agreed to the following amenities for the park: Skate/BMX park Lighted Sports Fields to include soccer and baseball Concession Stand/Restrooms Playgrounds for tots, older children and swing sets Picnic area with bar-be-ques Grass area for parties and bounce houses Walking path around the perimeter of the park Walking path from the northeast corner to the southeast corner of the park "Jumping Waters" amenity One basketball court -possibly lighted Tetherball Court Par Course Landscape along the northern wall between the park and neighbors Staff forwarded these suggestions to the design consultant and many of these were incorporated into Concept #3 (Attachment A). The Jumping Waters amenity, par course, basketball court and tetherball court are not shown on the concepts however, these amenities can be added in before the concept is presented for City Council consideration. SACommunity Services\CSComm\CSCRPT.127.wpd Attachment B provides two concepts that do not provide the all amenities the Commission requested be included in the concepts. Steve Lang and Oscar Johnson will be in attendance to answer any questions the Commission may have regarding the design of the park. Staff from the Community Development Department will attend the Commission meeting to answer any questions that may arise regarding the environmental issues of noise and lights. The Public Works Department will have staff available to answer questions regarding traffic issues. The youth sports groups have been invited to attend the meeting on December 11 to review the concepts. Once the Commission determines the final concept to be submitted for City Council consideration, the Consultant will refine the concept for the January 2, 2001 City Council meeting. ALTERNATIVES: The alternatives available to the Commission include: 1. Approve a Community Park Concept to be forwarded for City Council consideration; or 2. Do not approve a Community Park Concept to be forwarded for City Council consideration; or 3. Provide staff with alternate direction. I Dodie Horvitz, Community Services Director Attachments: A.
