Top and pan tiles are curved to approximately one third of a circle, and have widths at the large and small ends of approximately 8'/2 and 7 inches (216 and 178 mm), respectively. One nail hole is provided in the small end of the top the and in the large end of the pan tile. Tiles are approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) thick and 20 inches (508 mm) long, and are installed with a maximum 11 -inch (279 mm) center -to -center spacing, and a minimum head lap of 3 inches (76 mm). The tiles have a vertical exposure of 17 inches (432 mm) and have an installed weight of approximately 10.7 pounds per square foot (52.2 kg/m2). The tiles may be used to trim hips, ridges and rakes, provided they are embedded in mortar or roofing mastic. See Figure 1 for details. 2.2 Two-piece Baja Mission Tile: The tiles are similar to the two-piece Mission tile, except that the widths at the large and small ends are approximately 63/4 and 6 inches (171 and 152 mm), respectively. Tiles are approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) thick and 171/2 inches (445 mm) long. Tiles are installed in the same manner as the two- piece Mission tile, except the horizontal spacing is 9 inches (229 mm) with a minimum head lap of 3 inches (76 mm). The installed weight of the tiles, when installation is with a 9 -inch (229 mm) center -to -center spacing, and a minimum head lap of 3 inches (76 mm), is approximately 9.4 pounds per square foot (45.9 kg/m2). See Figure 1 for details. 2.3 "S" Tile: The tiles are single S-shaped tiles manufactured in a manner similar to the two-piece Mission tiles, except they are 18 inches (457 mm) long, 13 inches (330 mm) wide and 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) thick, with two nail holes in the pan file and one nail hole in the cover tile. Various accessory tiles are available for ridges, hips and rakes. The installed tile weight is approximately 9 pounds per square foot (43.9 kg/m2) when installation is with an 11 -inch (279 mm) center -to -center spacing and 3 -inch (76 mm) head lap. See Figure 2 for details. 2.4 Eurobaja Tile: The tiles are two-piece tiles manufactured in a manner similar to the two-piece Mission tile, except that they are flat pan - shaped with two side lips that flare out. The tiles are 17'/, inches (444 mm) long, have a width of 63/4 inches (171 mm) tapering to 04 inches (159 mm), and are'/, inch (12.7 mm) thick and 2 inches (51 mm) in height to the outer edge of the side lip. One nail hole is located approximately 2 inches (51 mm) from the head and the. nose. The cover tile and pan file are similar except that the nail holes are located on opposite ends. The installed weight is approximately 9.9 pounds per square foot (48.3 kg/m) when installation is with a 9 -inch (229 mm) center -to -center spacing and a minimum 3 -inch (76 mm) head lap. See Figure 4. 2.7 Two-piece Junipero Tile: The Junipero Pan the is a tapered clay tile approximately 16.75 inches (425 mm) long and'/2 inch (12.7 mm) thick, and has widths at the small and large ends of approximately 5.75 inches (146 mm) and 7 inches (178 mm), respectively. The height of the tile is approximately 3.2 inches (81 mm). One nail slot is located approximately 1 inch (25.4 mm) from the head of the tile. The Junipero Cover the has a finger -embossed design on the surface and is designed to be used with the Junipero Pan tile. The cover tile is similar to the Junipero Pan file except that the widths at the small and large ends are approximately 5.75 inches (146 mm) and 7 inches (178 mm), respectively. The height of the cover tile is approximately 2.5 inches (63.5 mm). One fastener slot is located approximately 1 inch (25.4 mm) from the head of the tile. The tiles are installed with a minimum head lap of 3 inches (76 mm) and have an installed weight of approximately 14 pounds per square foot (68 kg/m2) when installation is with an 8 -inch (203 mm) center -to -center spacing. Figure 5 for details. 2.8 Alfaro Tile: The Alfaro Tile is approximately 18 inches (457 mm) long and 10 inches (254 mm) wide, with a thickness of V, inch (12.7 mm) to 11/18 inch (14.3 mm). The height of the barrel portion of the tile is approximately 1.8 inches (45.7 mm). The tile has a flat pan section approximately 3 inches (76 mm) wide, and two side lips that flare 45 degrees. Opposite corners are cut to triangular shape. Two nail holes are located on the pan section and one nail slot is located on the barrel. Tiles are installed with a 3- inch (76 mm) minimum head lap and have an installed weight of approximately 8.1 pounds per square foot (39.5 kg/m) when installation is with an 8 -inch (203 mm) center -to -center spacing. See Figure 5 for details. 2.9 Installation: The tiles must be installed in accordance with Table 15-D-1 of the 1997 Uniform Building Code'"' (UBC), except as noted in this report. Nails must be minimum No. 11 gage, 5/te inch - head (7.9 mm), corrosion -resistant roofing nails having sufficient length to penetrate the sheathing at least 1 inch (25.4 mm), or extend through the sheathing, whichever is less. Approved tile ties may be used as alternates to nailing. On roof slopes over 21:12 (175% slope), the bottom edge of each tile must be secured with an approved clip. Solid sheathing must comply with, and be fastened in accordance with, the UBC. A 1 -inch -by -2 -inch (25.4 mm by 51 mm) cant strip must be placed at the eave and fastened to the sheathing with 5d, corrosion -resistant, common nails. Where used, mortar must comply with requirements for Type O mortar in Chapter 21 of the UBC. Tiles in contact with mortar must be immersed in water for two minutes prior to placement. On slopes of 2'/2:12 (21% slope) to less than 4:12 (33% slope) for Napa "S" tiles, and on slopes of 2'/2:12 (21%slope) to less than 3:12 (25% slope) for all other tiles, the file is considered decorative material only, and must be installed over an approved roof, covering complying with the UBC, subject to approval of the code official. 2.10 Tile Repair: The damaged tile is removed by breaking it completely out of the field and cleaning away all debris. Existing fasteners must be removed and any damage to existing undedayment must be repaired prior to installation of the replacement tile. The replacement tile is inserted into the open space, maintaining head and side laps. The tile is secured with 11 gage, 5/18 inch - head (7.9 mm), corrosion -resistant roofing nails, or an existing wire tile tie. 2.11 Roof Classification: Roof tiles installed in accordance with this report are noncombustible roof coverings in accordance with Section 1504.2 of the UBC. Roof tiles installed in accordance with this report over solid sheathing are a Class A roof coverings in accordance with Section 1504.1 of the UBC. 2.12 Identification: Each tile is embossed with the words "Redland, Mexico." In addition, each pallet is identified with the evaluation report number (ER -4300), the Redland Clay Tile name, manufacturing location, installed weight, and the product name. 3.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICC -ES Interim Criteria for Clay and Concrete Roof Tiles (AC180), dated January 2002, including roof classification tests in accordance with UBC Standard 15-2; and a quality control manual. 4.0 FINDINGS That the clay tiles described in this report comply with the 1997 Uniform Building Code'"' (UBC), subject to the following conditions: 4.1 The roof tiles are manufactured, Identified and installed in accordance with this report and the manufacturer's instructions and the UBC. 4.2 All roof tile profiles recognized In this report are manufactured at the Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, facility, the two-piece Mission tile, Baja Mission tile and "S" tile profiles are also manufactured at the Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, facility.
