CALIF. 9r1i,i1 To determine the proper credit (points) for gas furnaces with and without vent dampers, refer to the Commission's Directory of Certified Gas and Oil Fan -Type Central Furnaces and follow these instructions: 1. For a furnace equipped with a vent damper, and installed in a location and manner that allows it to use heated air for combustion, take the energy credit (points) assigned to the ,reported seasonal efficiency of that furnace when tested with a vent damper. 2. For every other furnace installation (i.e., a furnace that does not require or is not equipped with a vent damper, or any furnace installed in a manner that does not allow it to use heated air for combustion, even if it is equipped with a vent damper) , take the energy credit (poi-nts) assigned to the reported seasonal efficiency of that furnace when tested without a vent damper. 3. If the resulting reported seasonal efficiency in either step is less than 71 percent SE, use the new point tables in Attachment 8 to get the correct points for these lower furnace efficiencies. AODTIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR DETERMINING THE ' ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF INTERIOR SHADING When the Commission developed the standards, it made certain assumptions regarding the shading effects of window framing and interior drapes. Designers who use a performance calculation method, including the point system, are entitled to use these same assumptions when determining the shadinggcoefficient of glazing. . When no other interior shading 'device will be installed by the builder, the designer may assume, for purposes of demonstrating compliance with the budget (or using the point system), that single pane glazing will have a shading coefficient of 0.80 and that- double pane glazing will have a shading coefficient of 0.66._T%se assumptions account for the shading value of the window framing and for the likelihood that interior drapes will be installed by the building owner. _ Questions Regarding This Notice If you have any questions regarding this notice you may call the Commis- sion's New Buildings and Appliance Efficiency Office at (916) 324-3383. For legal questions regarding AS 163, call John Chandley at (916) 324-3256. ATTACHMENTS Attachment A lists the approved compliance point scores for .each climate zone in the state. Where the compliance score is not zero, builders may use these compliance. scores in lieu of zero when demonstrating compliance with the energy budget requirements of the standards (§2-5352(a), Title 24). 6.
