BACKGROUND: The City is developing a new park site at the west end of Bottlebrush and Saguaro Drives. This park has not been officially named. The Community Services Commission directed staff to notify the residents of the area and ask for their input as to suggested names for the park. Attachment A is the adopted Park Naming Process Form. One Park Naming form has been submitted from the Community and is provided as Attachment B. Once the Commission has selected a name for consideration by the City Council, staff will present the information to the City Council for consideration. ALTERNATIVES: The alternatives available to the Commission include: 1. Provide a recommendation for an official name for the park site located on the west end of Bottlebrush and Saguaro Drives and direct staff to present this recommendation to the City Council for consideration; or 2. Do not provide a recommendation for an official name for the park site located on the west end of Bottlebrush and Saguaro Drives; or 3. Provide staff with alternate direction. BUSINESS ITEI c&t,/ 4 ^-4 M OF TNF� COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING DATE: October 8, 2001 ITEM TITLE: Adams Park Surfacing Grant RECOMMENDATION: Recommend that the City Council support the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Waste Tire Playground Cover Grant Program application. BACKGROUND: The California Integrated Waste Management Board's Waste Tire Playground Cover Grant Program provides funds for rubber surfacing at playgrounds. The rubber surfacing at Adams Park, under the water feature, is in need of replacement. Staff would like to submit an application for possible funding for Adams Park. One of the components of the grant process is obtaining three letters of support for the project. A letter from the Community Services Commission supporting the grant application due to the need for replacement of the surfacing at Adams park could be included with the application. ALTERNATIVES: The alternatives available to the Commission include: 1. Authorize the Community Services Commission Chairperson to sign a letter of support for the California Integrated Waste Management Board's Waste Tire Playground Cover Grant Program for Adams Park; or 2. BACKGROUND: The Community Services Commission meets the second Monday of each month. The second Monday in November - November 12, is the federally recognized Veteran's Day. The City of La Quinta will observe Veteran's Day on this date. The Community Services Commission will need to be rescheduled.
