CONSENT CALENDJ COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES January 14, 2002 CALL TO ORDER igular meeting of the Community Services Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in ncil Chambers of the La Quinta Civic Center. Chairperson St. Johns presided over the meeti lmissioner Rebich led the Pledge of Allegiance. II1BERS PRESENT: Commissioner Deborah Bechard Commissioner Michele Boudreau Commissioner Mike Davis Commissioner Joan Rebich Commissioner Victoria St. Johns (Chairperson) IFF PRESENT: Dodie Horvitz, Community Services Director Vianka Orrantia, Secretary PUBLIC COMMENT CONFIRMATION OF AGENDA CONSENT CALENDAR 1. Approval of Minutes of December 10, 2001 B. Monthly Department Report for November 2001 It was moved by Commissioners Boudreau/Bechard to approve the Consent Calendar submitted. Unanimous. PUBLIC HEARING BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Youth Workshop Format Presented in the monthly packet for Commissions review was a list of suggestiom getting the youth meetings started. Mrs. Horvitz suggested to the Commission t the students put together their own agenda and that there is someone there to h the students along with leading the meetings but encourage the students to ti ownership of the meetings. It was moved by Rebich/Davis to evaluate the youth workshop at the January meet for possible changes for future meetings. Unamimous. Peace Pole Mats - The Commission reviewed the materials and discussed the possibility of placin Peace Pole in the new park to be located in the cove. The Commission also discus: the six-year maintenance commitment as presented in the materials. Commissio Bechard advised that the Girl Scouts would maintain the Peace Pole for the first years and the City would continue the upkeep after that time. No action was taken on this item. 3. Community Picnic and Birthday Celebration Mrs. Horvitz advised the Commission of the events tentatively scheduled for the Cit 20th Birthday Celebration. Mrs. Horvitz asked the Commission if they would like have a booth, and also informed the Commission that there are currently fUI available for handouts. Commissioner Bechard suggested that the youth t participate in the Youth Workshop might be able to come up with a theme for booth and also run it during the event. Mrs. Horvitz advised the Commission tha would be the Commission's responsibility to run the booth and that also shading we be required of all booths. A massive press campaign will begin and the Commission's help will be neede Anyone wising to partake in the parade will have to fill out an application and it m be tied into La Ouinta somehow. It was moved by Rebich/Davis to have a booth at the upcoming 20th Birth, Celebration. CORRESPONDENCE AND WRITTEN MATERIALS Commissioner St. John advised the Commission of the upcoming Youth Conferel in April over Spring Break. Commissioner Bechard advised the Commission that she be willing to be an Ambassador if one is needed and Commissioners Davis and Ret would also be able to attend. Commissioner St. John also informed the Commission of the upcoming Disaster CI regarding biological threats sponsored by the County. COMMISSIONER ITEMS A. Community Park Update: Mrs. Horvitz advised the Commission that she is working with Purkiss-Rose-RSI on the many changes. The park is going as origin planned with the exception of the additional bathroom stalls and the P.A. system be placed on hold. B. Cove Mini Parks Update: Velasco Park: Mrs. Hovitz advised the Commission that the park is nearing completi The Commission asked if there was any type of ceremony for the parks, and N Horvitz advised that there usually is, a couple of weeks after the completion of park. Eisenhower Park: The wall separating the park from the home of Mr. Robey is n completed, with the landscaping matching that of the park. The turf was moved, some landscaping was added against the wall so that it deters anyone from near or playing along that area. Desert Club Manor: Park Plans have been changed, the sound wall will be remOl from the north east portion to allow for access from Sagebrush Drive.
