CALL TO ORDER

It was moved by Commissioners Boudreau/Bechard to approve the Consent Calendar VI

A. Youth Workshop Information
Commissioners' St. Johns and Rebich attended the last youth workshop.
students had prepared the agenda and ran the meeting very well.
Students will man the Community Services Commission booth at the Picnic and
Commissioners will be responsible for many of the aspects on the day of the picl
The next youth workshop is scheduled during testing week. Marni will make sure
agenda is prepared for the meeting.

Community Pic I and Birthday Celebration
.
Commissioner Rebich reported on the 20th Anniversary Celebration meeting held
March 15. The Committee recommended pennants be handed out at the picni
Marni is getting quotes for pennants, but due to the cost, full color logos will not
printed on them.
Marni stated that Star 106.9 would provide music during the picnic. A walk throL
will be held with the Commissioners prior to the picnic so the Commissioners (
answer questions vendors may have on that day.
CORRESPONDENCE AND WRITTEN MATERIALS
None.
COMMISSIONER ITEMS
A. Community Park Update: The park plans are in plan check and the park should gc
bid in two-three months.
B. Cove Mini Parks Update:
Velasco Park and Eisenhower Park dedications went well, Desert Club Manor P
dedication will take place once it's complete.
C. Commissioner Boudreau stated that the youth baseball league is having some difficul1
with the scheduling of fields for girl's teams. Staff reported that this is an issue for
league, as the City does not monitor their schedules.
D. Commissioner Bechard asked about the shop and dine program. Staff reported that i
marketing program aimed at the local restaurants attracting business during the sumf
season.
E. Commissioner Rebich said that she has seen the infomercial and is pleased with it.
F. Commissioner St. Johns stated that she is excited to see the youth included in this yei
CPRS Conference. Students from the High School are planning to attend.

It was moved by Commissioners Rebich/Davis to adjourn the Community Servi
Commission meeting. Unanimous. Meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.

ITEM TITLE:
Community Picnic and Birthday Celebration
RECOMMENDATION:
As deemed appropriate by the Community Services Commission.
BACKGROUND:
The annual Community Picnic and Birthday Celebration will be held on Saturday, April
27, 2002 at Fritz Burns Park. In the past, the Community Services Commissioners
have acted as Ambassadors for the picnic while staff directed vendors and answered
questions,
Due to the magnitude of the celebration, the Community Services Commissioners are
needed to direct vendors and answer questions at the picnic. The Commission may
wish to meet on Wednesday, April 24 at Fritz Burns Park with staff to go over the
park layout and the plans for the picnic. On Saturday, April 27, the Commission will
be in charge of the picnic in regards to the vendors. Staff will coordinate the
presentations and equipment.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternatives available to the Commission include:
1. Meet with staff on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. Fritz Burns Park to review
the park layout and gain information to answer questions from vendors; or
2. Do not meet with staff at Fritz Burns Park; or

RECOMMENDATION:
Identify projects to be included in the Community Services Commission 2002/03 Work
Plan.
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:
Each year, the Commission is required to submit an annual work plan for City Council
approval. This work plan outlines the tasks that the Commission would like to
complete in the coming year. Attachment A is the Community Services Commission's
2001/02 Work Plan for consideration.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternatives available to the Commission are:
1. Identify projects to be included in the Community Services Commission
2002/03 Work Plan; or
2. Do not identify projects to be included in the Community Services
Commission 2002/03 Work Plan; or

COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION PHILOSOPHY
The general purpose of the Community Services Commission is to encourage the
development of a planned and orderly approach to the delivery of leisure and
community services in the City.
The objectives of the Commission are to:
. Serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on identifying matters
pertaining to recreation and community services
. Communicate the availability of services to citizens through both private
and public resources to avoid duplication and conflict of effort
