The following setback adjustment has been approved subject to conditions and in

After review it was determined that:
1. This adjustment is consistent with the intent and' purpose of the Zoning
Ordinance.

2. There are special circumstances applicable to the property, including such
factors as size, shape, topography, location or surroundings that justify
approval of the adjustment. These special circumstances are:
a. The lot is 50' X 100' therefore, the usable rear yard area is
approximately 1450 square feet (30% of the lot) . The pool has been
sited in the rear yard to allow recreational opportunities abutting the
home (e.g. barbecue, sunbathing, etc.) and provide pedestrian safety
between the pool and the residence.
b. The public utility companies will not be affected by this action.
3. This adjustment will not be detrimental to the health, safety, and general
welfare of the community or be detrimental to property in the vicinity of the
parcel for which the adjustment is requested.

Subject: Report of Field Densities
House Pad,
On April 20, 1990, a representative of our firm performed density tests at the
above referenced project. Tests were performed at random locations, in
accordance with Nuclear Density Test Procedures, ASTM D 2922-81. Method A or
B and ASTM D 3017-88. Tests were performed as per authorization of Richard
Siddow. ,
The estimated locations of the tests are presented on the attached plan with
their results being summarized on the attached test report sheet. A total of two
(2) density tests were performed.
Test results indicate that a minimum of ninety (90) percent relative compaction
has been obtained within the areas tested.
The maximum density -optimum moisture were determined in the laboratory in
accordance with ASTM D 1557-78, Method A.

DISCUSSION:
The project is located at 54=185 Avenida Madero in the City of La Quinta,
California.
2. . Prior to our arrival at the site, pad grade had been made and
compacted.
3. The purpose of testing was to observe compliance with the minimum
requirements of .the City. of La Quinta, California.
4. We did .not observe if the fill material placed on this project was placed
as mandaated 'by U.B.C. requirements in Chapter 29, Section 2903 (A) or
Chapter 70, Section 7010 (c) & (d)..
This firm did not perform a soils investigation, did not conduct any tests to
determine the general condition, adequacy or stability of soils on the property,
nor did it observe the filling or. compacting operations which were already
completed at the time our personnel were called to the site. The. only services
performed were the specific moisture and density tests summarized in this
report. These test results provide only limited information about the surface
materials observed at the locations and depths tested and cannot be relied
upon for information about subsurface conditions or compaction, or to
determine the appropriateness of any design or construction of improvements
on the site. No inspection was made of the contractor's work and. no guaranty
or warranty is made or implied. The test locations are approximate and were
determined by pacing and sighting from prominent field features. In our work,
we have relied on topographic and surveying information provided by other.
Our field testing was performed after the grading operations were
accomplished. With any manufactured product there are statistical variations
in its uniformity and in the accuracy of tests used to measure its quality. As
compared with other manufactured products, field construction usually
presents large statistical variations in its uniformity and accuracy of test results
used -to measure its -quality. - Thus even .with, very --careful. observation -and
testing, it cannot be said that all parts of theproduct comply with the job during
grading rather than testing after grading operations have been performed,
therefore, our opinion; based on testing the work means that there is only a
statistically based probability that the densities obtained may comply. with the
job requirements.
