COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING
DATE: March 10, 2003
ITEM TITLE: Skate Park Grand Opening
RECOMMENDATION:
As deemed appropriate by the Community Services Commission.
BACKGROUND:
The La Quinta Skate Park Grand Opening event is in the early planning stages, as
an actual date has not been determined yet. The bid for the court improvements
will be awarded the end of April with work anticipated to be complete by June.
The modular skate park equipment is scheduled for ordering in the near future and
ready for installation once the court improvements are complete.
Staff would like direction from the Commission regarding establishing a skate park
grand opening subcommittee to plan this event. It is envisioned that skaters that
have attended past Community Services Commission meetings could participate in
the planning of the event.
Activities that could be included in the grand opening could be food, entertainment,
demonstrations and prizes. Planning meetings for this event could be established
as the committee deems appropriate.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternatives available to the Commission include:
1 . Appoint up to two Commissioners and local skaters to participate on a skate
park planning committee; or
2. Do not appoint up to two Commissioners and local skaters to participate on a
skate park planning committee; or
