COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING
DATE: May10, 2004
ITEM TITLE: La Quinta Skate Park Concept
BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:
AGENDA CATEGORY:
BUSINESS SESSION:
CONSENT CALENDAR:
91 to IM61 &IRIMYI
PUBLIC HEARING:
At the April 19, 2004 Community Services Commission meeting, the Commission
selected a set of components for the La Quinta Skate Park as well as a concrete bowl
concept. Staff submitted the plans to the skate park designer. Attachment A provides
a preliminary design of the skate park.
When the La Quinta Park was originally master planned, lighting for the skate park was
included in the overall lighting plan. The recent plans for the skate park included a
"leg" west of the basketball courts. Due to the original lighting plan provided, that
area was not originally included in the skate park layout, therefore the lighting system
did not take that area into consideration.
California Skate Parks was able to incorporate the Commission and public desires into
the proposed layout without using the "leg" of the skate park. One change that the
designer will incorporate in the proposed plan is to increase the depths of the bowl
from 5-6 feet to 7-8 feet, as originally presented at the public meeting. This concept
will bg presented t the City Council at the May 18 City Council meeting.
