Not very many questions were exchanged, and the main point of the discussion was a time in which a meeting could be established between Mr. Armenta, Christina, and myself. During the first meeting with Mr. Armenta, Christina and I told him about our goals and ideas, and asked if he had any suggestions. Mr. Armenta did not have a lot of information to give us. His main concerns were unmotivated students, volunteer opportunities, and the City's past involvement with the ASB students. Mr. Armenta told us to meet with the students during their ASB time, 7:00 AM. He also told us they did not have a lot of activities planned yet, but the students would be working on new programs before our next meeting. The meeting with the ASB class started off late. Mr. Armenta was delayed and students were trickling in the classroom little -by -little. The ASB president told me this was not a mandatory class, it was strictly a volunteer basis, she also told me committees and offices were selected for the homecoming festivities, resulting in unfinished activity planning. Mr. Armenta did not inform me of any of these situations. Mr. Armenta informed me of the short period of time we had with the students and asked to make the meeting brief. He stated the students had a lot to accomplish during the week and they needed this time to plan homecoming activities. Christina and I evaluated the information that was important and addressed those aspects of our program with the students. To spark an interest we organized a small raffle. We discussed volunteer opportunities (a subject in which Mr. Armenta requested), our new additions to the city, the La Quinta Skate Park, homecoming activities, and upcoming program ideas. There were plenty of opportunities in which students could respond. I asked questions, but did not receive a lot of feedback. I discussed our idea of a tailgate party at La Quinta Park, in which the students gave suggestions of more advertising and free food; there was not any suggestions as to what type of activities we should provide or how we can provide more interest in the program. The student in charge of spirit week let us know that she would be happy to work with us, but she could not give us any information due to a committee not being established and activities not being planned. Overall, more attention was focused on what the City could do to help the ASB program and less on what the City could offer the students. Cc: Christina Calderon, Recreation Coordinator
