COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING
AGENDA CATEGORY:
BUSINESS SESSION: A
CONSENT CALENDAR:
STUDY SESSION:
DATE: March 14, 2005 PUBLIC HEARING:
ITEM TITLE: Centre Pointe Park
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the park design for Centre Pointe Park.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Additional funding is not required at this time.
WORK PLAN TASK:
Park Development
BACKGROUND:
As part of the development of the Centre Pointe project on the southeast corner of
Washington Street and Miles Avenue, a three acre park is being installed by the
developer. Once accepted by the City, the park will then become a City facility.
Approximately two years ago, staff made suggestions as to what amenities the City
would like to see at the park including a dog park similar to the one at Fritz Burns Park.
Attachment A is the park design as presented by the landscape architect. There are
two modifications that staff would recommend: Remove the walkway from the dog
park area and add a double gate system at the entrance to the dog park.
The playground equipment which has been selected offers the most play events in the

05.doc
allowed space and with shade structures included in the design over the benches. All
amenities meet the current Americans with Disabilities Act. The playground design is
presented as Attachment B.
The Planning Commission approved the Centre Pointe project but directed the
landscape architect to get approval from the Community Services Commission for the
park component. As the project nears construction, the Commission may wish to host
a public meeting for input as to what to officially name the park.
Once the Commission approves the park design, the landscape architect will complete
construction drawings. It is anticipated the park will be completed by mid 2006.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternatives available to the Commission include:
1. Approve the park design for Centre Pointe Park; or
2. Do not approve the park design for Centre Pointe Park; or
3. ' Provide staff with alternate direction.
