First, the issue of using Teco or Simpson "N" nailing at the HPAHD holdown hardware. This is sufficient to me. Page 17 of my calcs outlines the allowable load on the HPAHD's of 1796 lbs. Upon review of the allowable shear loading on the Simpson N10 nails used in douglas fir with light gauge side plates an allowable load of 92 lbs. is found while the U.B.C. allows 108 lbs. for single shear using 16d nails. This being the case, the N10 nailing provides 85% of the shear load that 16d nailing does. Applying this to my allowable overturning load found in take calcs, it's value would become 1526-6s. Review of the shear wall tabulation reveals the highest overturning load requiring HPAHD connectors to be 1290 lbs. Thus the N10 nailing is acceptable. Second, the issue of applying the HPAHD connectors directly to the studs and then putting the shear wall plywood over them; this is an acceptable situation to me.
