The insulation is noncombustible in accordance with Section 215 of the 1997 Uniform Building Code"m (UBC) and may be used in any type of building construction. The insulation is installed in walls using a pneumatic conveying (blowing) machine. This machine mixes the material with water and transports the insulation into the building using pneumatic hoses, placing the loose pieces of insulation into their final position. The installed density ranges from 1.8 to 2.0 pcf (28.8 to 32.0 kg/m2). The thermal resistance, R, is 14.35 °F•h•ft2/Btu (2.53°K•m2/W) at 75°F (23.9°C), for a 3.5 -inch (89 mm) applied thickness. The UltraFitDS and Asure R loose -fill glass fiber insulation has a flame -spread index of 25 or less, and a smoke - developed rating of 50 or less, when tested in accordance with UBC Standard 8-1. 2.2 Installation: Installation must be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and this report. UltraFitDS and Asure R loose -fill glass fiber insulation must be applied to framed walls where one side has wall covering installed. Blocking must be placed around lighting fixtures, motors, fans, blowers, heaters, flues, chimneys, fireplaces and other heat - producing devices, to provide proper clearances as noted in this report. All openings that may allow insulation to escape must also be blocked. Wall cavities must be filled one at a time, working from bottom to top. The insulation may be scrubbed as necessary to fit in the cavity. Vapor retarders may be installed only after the installed product achieves a moisture content of 15 percent or less. Application is limited to walls that enclose the insulation with wall covering. Exposed applications and horizontal applications are not permitted. 2.3 Identification: Each package of UltraFitDS and Asure R loose -fill glass fiber insulation covered by this report bears the following information: 1. The name and address of Guardian Fiberglass, Inc. 2. The flame -spread index and smoke -developed rating. 3. The type and category. 4. The net weight (per bag) of the insulation. 5. The Guardian Fiberglass, Inc., recommendations for minimum thickness and maximum coverages. 6. The Guardian Fiberglass, Inc., recommended maximum coverage chart based on the manufacturer's design density. 3.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED - Reports of tests in accordance with UBC Standard 2-1, UBC Standard 8-1 and ASTM C 518. 4.0 FINDINGS The UltraFitDS and Asure R loose -fill glass fiber insulation described in this report complies with the 1997 Uniform Building Code'rm, subject to the following conditions: l 4.1 The UltraFitDS and Asure R loose -fill glass fiber insulation is installed in accordance with this report, and with the manufacturer's written installation instructions imprinted on each bag of the material. 4.2 The material is not installed within 3 inches (76 mm) of recessed light fixtures, unless the fixture is rated and labeled for insulation contact (IC). 4.3 Clearances around metal fluesi chimneys, equipment and other components is maintained in accordance with - the appliance manufacturer's recommendations or listings for contact with noncombustible materials.
