Building, Reconstruction of Pad Building 1
Dear Mr. Hanada:
This letter is in reference to the proposed reconstruction of Pad Building 1, noted above,
due to the recent fire that occurred while the building construction was approximately 90%
complete.
A site visit by Smith Consulting Architects and GSSI structural engineers was performed
on May 23, 2006 to assess the extent of the fire and evaluate the structural damage. A
copy of the letter from GSSI, that indicates the extent of the structural damage, is attached
for reference. Please note that we concur with GSSI's assessment of the extent of the
'damage.
Please accept this letter as confirmation that the reconstruction work for this building shall
be in accordance with the previously approved plans and specifications under which the
building was being constructed.. It is our understanding that these letters are sufficient to
allow the reconstruction to start once the demolition work has been completed and
inspected by your department.

Re: The Pavilion at La Quinta — Pad 1 Building Fire Damage Report
Dear Mr. Barrett:
A site visit was performed on May 23, 2003, to evaluate the structural damage of Pad 1 building
due to the fire which occurred this past weekend. Based on our observation the fire damage to
the structure occurred in the southeast corner of the building between grids B and D. The fire .
damaged the exterior walls, roof mansards, the roof steel deck and the steel trusses fmd biros
girders. Except for smoke and soot damage, the 24 inch deep steel truss girder between grids B
and C, and the steel tube columns at grids 2-C and 2-D do not appear to have been damaged
structurally. In several areas between grids A and B the under side of the steel deck has some
smoke and soot damage. The drive-through soffit has visible signs of water damage:. The
concrete slab on grade and foundations do not appear to have any damage due to they fire.
We recommendation that the walls and roof structure between grids B and D (except for the truss
girder between grids B and C, and the columns at grids 2-C and 2-D, be completely removed and
rebuilt at as originally should in the construction documents. Also, portions of the roof deck
with smoke and soot damage should be thoroughly cleaned or removed and replaced, and Die
drive soffit plaster should also be removed and replaced. Additionally, other portions of the
building may be required to be removed and replaced subject to further observations; of damaged
areas not visible at the time of our site visit. Generally, the remainder of the roof structure
between grids A and B appears to be in good condition.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
GSSI Engineers
Oscar Gonzalez, S.E.
