Approved super fire hydrants, shall be spaced every 330 feet and shall be located not less than 25 feet nor more
than 165 feet from any portion of the buildings as measured along outside travel ways.
Blue dot reflectors shall be placed in the street 8 inches from centerline to the side that the fire hydrant is on, to
identify fire hydrant locations.
Fire Department connections (FDC) shall be not less than 25 feet nor more than 50 feet from a fire hydrant and
shall be located at the front side of the buildings. FDC's and PIV's may not be located at the rear of buildings.
Note also that FDC's must be at least 25 feet from the building and may not be blocked by landscaping, parking
stalls or anything that may restrict immediate access. Verify location of FDC and PIV with the fire department
prior to installation.
Building plans shall be submitted to the Fire Department for plan review to run concurrent with the City plan
check.
Provide a Hazardous Materials Inventory Statement (HNUS) and Hazardous Materials Management Plan.
(HIvUP) when submitting building plans to the fire department.
Water plans for the fire protection system (fire hydrants, fdc, etc.) shall be submitted to the Fire Department for
approval prior to issuance of a building permit.
City of La Quinta ordinance requires all commercial buildings 5,000 sq. ft. or larger to be fully sprinkled. NFPA
13 Standard. Sprinkler plans will need to be submitted to the Fire Department.
The required water system, including fire hydrants, shall be installed and accepted by the appropriate water
agency prior to any combustible building material being placed on an individual lot.
Fire Department street access shall come to within 150 feet of all portions of the 1'. floor of all buildings, by
path of exterior travel.
The applicant or developer shall prepare and submit to the Fire Department for approval, a site plan designating
required fire lanes with appropriate lane painting and/or signs. Fire lanes shall be a minimum 20 feet wide with
a height of 13"6" clear and unobstructed.
Install a Haz-mat KNOX key box on the building. (Contact the fire department for an application)
Install portable fire extinguishers as required by the California Fire Code.
, Any submissions to the fire department are the responsibility of the applicant.

Observations:
3.1 Roof sheathing ST6236 straps were installed @ 48"o.c, for five bays at grid lines
1 & 3 as called for on drawing sheet S2 of approved plans. All nail holes were
filled. 10d common nails were not verified.
3.2 Mechanical screening framed to 33" above roof high point. Mechanical contractor
indicated that mechanical equipment located at the south end of the building will
be 65" above the roof sheathing. Therefore, screening as framed will not hide
equipment.
3.3 Modified ST6236 straps were used in lieu of SP8 straps called for in detail
23/A8.2 and were not properly nails. Many mechanical screening support posts
were missing.
3.4 HD5A.anchors and 08 purlins called for in detail 6/SD-2 were all installed. All
nuts & bolts were installed. Four anchors along grid line one at mid building were
not tightened. Remainder of nuts and bolts appeared to be tightened. Tightening
of nuts was not verified.
3.5 Only 8 steel angle braces called for in detail 12/SD-1 were installed but were not
nailed to top chord of truss. 21 steel angle braces were not installed. However,
they were on site.

3.6 East & west ledgers appeared to be installed properly. All nuts and washers were
installed: Tightening of bolts was not verified.
Conclusions & Recommendations:
3.2 Extend mechanical screen walls as need to fully screen mechanical equipment.
Use 3/8°plywood or OSB sheathing and fiber cement panel on each side of
screen wall refer also to approved details 22 & 23/A8.2.
3.3 ' Modified ST6236 straps are acceptable. Install all missing straps and properly
nail filling all nail holes.
3.4 Retighten all nuts.
3.5 Install remaining steel angle braces and nail all braces to top chord of trusses
with 6-16d nails.
3.6 Verify all nuts are tight:
