(UL) listed Class I duct liner identified as FB1266 ASJ Foil -Scrim -Craft liner, manufactured by the Compac Corporation, Netcong, New Jersey. Also available is an insulated duct using the same UL listed Class I duct liner. The insulation is identified as 5/e inch thick. Factory Mutual (FM) listed Elfoam brand modified isocyanurate foam, manufactured by the Elliott Company, Indianapolis, Indiana, and having a 1.9-pcf density and a Class I flame -spread classification with a flame -spread index of not more than 25 and a smoke -developed rating of not more than 450, when tested to UBC Standard 8-1. The same filament -wound manufacturing method described above with sandwich -type construction providing fiberglass reinforced plastic on both sides of the insulation is used for the insulated ducts. The ducts are manufactured in 4 -inch through 70 -inch diameters. The 4 -inch through 26 -inch ducts are available in 20 -foot lengths and the larger sizes in 10 -foot lengths. Straight sections of the duct are joined by using a 6 -inch -wide internal sheet metal sleeve of No. 26 gage to No. 22 gage (0.0187 inch to 0.0296 inch thick) galvanized steel, depending upon the duct size. The sleeve is first screw -attached to one section of pipe to be joined using no fewer than three equally spaced sheet metal screws for ducts through 12 -inch diameter, five screws for ducts 26 -inch through 36 -inch diameter and sixteen screws for ducts larger than 36 inches. A bead of Presstite'No. 579.6 Waterproof Mastic is applied around the circumference at the end of the duct. The adjacent section of duct is slipped over the sleeve and pressed tightly against the mastic, forming a waterproof seal. Sheet metal screws then secure the second section of duct to the sleeve. Finally, the joint is wrapped with Nashua Type 357 duct closure tape. As an alternate to the Nashua 357 duct tape, a single wrap of 4 -inch -wide Polyken 260 Foilastic tape with P- 29 primer provided by Spunstrand Inc. may be used. Standard fittings similarly constructed, such as ells, wyes, tees, crosses, branches concentric and eccentric reducers are available. Attachment procedures of these fittings are similar to those for straight sections. Trenches are dug for the duct on the desired locations, allowing for cover around the duct for a minimum of 4 inches of pea gravel or other select fill material approved by the building official. After all joint connections are made as described above and the duct system is lowered into position, backfilling is completed and the concrete slab is poured on top. The top of the duct should be a minimum of 2'/2 inches and a maximum of 5 feet below the concrete slab. The ducts are designed for use in systems with a maximum rated positive pressure equivalent to 10 -inch water column, a maximum rated negative pressure of 4.8 -inch water column and a maximum velocity of 2,500 feet per minute. Additional details are given in Table 1. 2.2 Identification: Each length of duct, including the fittings, is identified by a label which includes the manufacturer's name and address, the evaluation report number (ICBG ES ER -2488), maximum positive and negative pressures, rated velocity, operating temperature and the name of the inspection agency. 3.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Reports of load tests and tests conducted in accordance with applicable portions of UL Standard 181, calculations, installation instructions and a quality control manual. 4.0 FINDINGS That the Spunstrand Underslab Ducts described in this report comply with the 1997 ICBO Uniform Mechanical CodeTM for use in comfort heating, cooling and ventilation systems, subject to the following conditions: 4.1 The ducts are fabricated, identified and installed in accordance with this report, Chapter 6 of the ICBO Uniform Mechanical Code and the manufacturer's instructions. 4.2 The ducts are recognized only for below -grade installations as set forth in this report. 4.3 The ducts are manufactured at the Spunstrand Inc. plant located in Wallace, Idaho, under a quality control program with follow-up inspections by RADCO (NER-QA204). This report is subject to re-examination in two years. The committee does not find the remaining items to be such that the Building Permit should be restricted as the majority of the items are detail related and final clarification is not ultimately needed until later in the construction process. Thank you for your continued support of the community. Please contact Brook Marshall at (760) 219-8057 with any questions. The project site is located at 81-580 Baffin Avenue — I.,ot 99B within the. Madison Club development in the City of La - Quinta, California. Tt is our understanding that the proposed residential structure will be of relatively lightweight wood -frame construction and will be supported by conventional shallow spread footings and concrete slabs on grade. The lot was previously graded during the initial rough grading of the Madison Club project site. The rough grading included overexeavation and recompaction of the native surface soil along with the placement of engineered fill material to construct the building pad. The site grading is sununarized in the referenced Report of Testing and Observation during Rough Grading along with the compaction test results. The referenced reports include recommendations pertaining to the construction of residential structure foundations. The previous reports also address the potential for liquefaction, subsidence and differential settlement. The remedial grading performed was intended to mitigate potential differential settlements. Based upon our review of the referenced reports, it is our opinion that the structural values included in these reports remain applicable for the design and construction of the proposed residential structure foundations. November 16, 2009 -2- Project No. 54409179 09-11-283 Because the lot has been previously rough graded, the remedial grading required at this time should be minimal provided that the building falls within the previously assumed building envelope. The building area should be cleared of surface vegetation, scarified and moisture conditioned prior to precise grading. The exposed surface should be compacted to a minimum of 90 percent relative compaction is attained prior to fill placement. Any fill material should be placed in thin lifts at near optimum moisture content and compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction. The allowable bearing pressures recommended in the grading report prepared by Sladden Engineering remain applicable. Conventional shallow spread footings should be bottomed into properly compacted fill material a minimum of 12 inches below lowest adjacent grade. Continuous footings should be at least 12 inches wide and isolated pad footings should be at least 2 feet wide. Continuous footings and isolated .pad footings should be designed utilizing allowable bearing pressures of 1.500 psf and 2000 psf, respectively. An allowable increase of 300 psf for each additional 1. foot of width and 300 psf for each additional 6 inches of depth may be utilized if desired. The maximum allowable bearing pressure should be 3000 psf. The recommended allowable bearing pressures may be increased by one-third for wind and seismic loading. Lateral forces may be resisted by friction along the base of the foundations and passive resistance along the sides of the footings. A friction coefficient of 0.48 times the normal dead load forces is recommended for use in design. Passive resistance may be estimated using an equivalent fluid weight of 300 pcf. if used in combination with the passive resistance, the frictional resistance should be reduced by one third to 0.33 times the normal dead load forces. The bearing .soils are non -expansive and fall within the "very low" expansion category in accordance with the 2007 (CBC)) classification criteria. Pertinent 2007 CBC Seismic Design parameters are summarized on the following page. Based on our field observations and understanding of local geologic conditions, the soil profile type judged applicable to this site is SD, generally described as stiff soil. The site is located within UHC Seismic Zone 4. The following presents additional coefficients and factors relevant to seismic mitigation for new construction upon adoption of the 2007 California Building Code The seismic design category for astructure may be determined in accordance with Section 1613 of the 2007 CBC or ASCE7. According to the 2007 CBC, Site Class D may be used to estimate design seismic loading for the proposed structures. The period of the structures should be less than 1h second. This assumption should be verified by the project structural engineer. The 2007 CBC Seismic Design Parameters are summarized on the following page.
