Therp oject consists of various repairs to existing conditions, striping or re - striping parking areas and other related work as indicated in the drawings. All work done shall be in compliance. with the latest adopted local codes, state and federal codes and all applicable sections of the Standard Specification for Public Works Construction. The existing postal facility is currently occupied. Contractor shall take all precautions necessary to secure areas requiring locked entries. Contractor shall limit use of the premises to construction activities in areas indicated; contractor shall allow facility use by USPS and by the public. All driveways and entrances serving the facility shall be kept clear and available to USPS customers and employees. Do not use these areas for parking or storage of materials. Schedule deliveries to minimize space and time requirements for storage of materials and equipment on site. Permission to interrupt utility services shall be made in writing 10 calendar days prior to the desired date of interruption to the Facility Manager/Postmaster. The removal or altering in any way of existing work shall be carried on in such a manner as to prevent injury or damage to any portion of the existing work which remains. All portion of existing work which has been damaged during construction operations shall be repaired or replaced in kind and in manner to match existing or adjoining work. All work of this nature shall be performed by the Contractor at the Contractor's expense. At the completion of all operations, existing work shall be in a condition equal to or better than that which existed before the new work started. TERMINOLOGY: Remove & Replace - Item is removed and replaced with new item to match existing or item as described. Remove & Reinstall - Item is removed and same item is installed at same location. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to examine the facility/site to determine the exact existing conditions and character. Protect existing work which is to" remain in place, be reused, or remain the property of the USPS. Repair items which are to remain and which are damaged during performance of the work to their original condition or replace with new. Provide new supports and reinforcements f'or existing construction weakened by demolition or removal work. Perform the relocation and reinstallation of relocated items as indicated with workers skilled in the trade involved. Repair items to be relocated which are damaged or replace damaged items with new undamaged items. Regulatory and Safety Requirements: Comply with federal, state and local hauling and disposal regulations. Dust and Debris Control: Prevent the spread of dust and debris to occupied portions of the building and avoid the creation of a nuisance in the surrounding area. Do not use water if it results in hazardous or objectionable conditions. Vacuum and dust the area daily. Patching: Where removals leave holes and damaged surfaces exposed in the finished work, patch and repair these holes and damaged surfaces to match adjacent finished surfaces. Where new work is to be applied to existing surfaces, perform removals and patching in a manner to produce surfaces suitable for receiving new work. Finished surfaces of patched area shall be flush with the adjacent existing surface and shall match the existing adjacent surface as closely as possible to the texture and finish. Patching shall include: a) Holes and depressions caused by previous physical damage or left as a•result of removals in existing masonry walls, stucco finished walls or walls with metal siding shall be filled or repaired with an approved patching material, applied in accordance with the manufacturer's printed instructions. b) Where existing partitions have been removed leaving damaged or missing resilient tile flooring. patch to match the existing floor tile. c) Patch ceiling area where partition has been removed. 02511 - HOT -MIX ASPHALT PAVING Hot -mix asphalt paving shall comply with standards set forth in the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (latest adopted edition), Section 203 and 302-5 Soil -Cement paving shall comply with standards set forth in the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (latest adopted edition), Section 301-3.1 Blue paint striping shall match Federal Standard 595a No. 15090. 02577 - PAVEMENT MARKINGS Pavement marking shall comply with standards set forth in the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (latest adopted edition), Section 210-1 and 310-5.6 DIVISION 03 03300 - CONCRETE Concrete shall comply with standards set forth in the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (latest adopted edition), Section 201 and 303. Install per manufacturers printed instructions DIVISION 05 05500 -METAL FABRICATIONS Metal railings shall comply with standards set forth in the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (latest adopted edition), Section 206-5 and 304-2 Provide metal forms and types that comply with requirements of ASTM E 985: Specifications for Permanent Metal Railing Systems and Rails for Buildings and that are free from surface blemishes where exposed to view in the finished unit. Exposed -to -view surfaces exhibiting pitting, roller marks, stains, discoloration or other imperfections on finished units are not acceptable. Steel Pipe: ASTM A 53: Std. Specifications for Pipe, Steel, Black & hot Dipped, Zinc -Coated Welded & Seamless. Brackets, flanges and Anchors shall be cast or formed steel, galvanized . Fasteners for anchoring railings to other construction shall be plated fasteners complying with ASTM B 633, Class Fe/Zn 25 or ASTM B 696, Class 12 for cadmium plating. Cast -in-place and Post -Installed anchors in concrete shall be fabricated from corrosion -resistant materials with capability to sustain, without failure, load imposed within a safety factor of 4. Fabrication: Fabricate handrails and railing systems to comply with requirements indicated for design, dimensions, details, finish and sizes. Pre -assemble railing systems in shop to greatest extent possible to minimize field splicing and assembly. Form changes in direction of railing members as follows: I ) By insertion of prefabricated elbow fittings. 2) By radius bends. 3) By bending. 4) By any method indicated above, applicable to change of direction involved. Mitered, square or sharp corners are prohibited. Form simple and compound curves by bending pipe in jigs to produce uniform curvature for each repetitive configuration required; maintain cylindrical cross-section of pipe throughout entire bend without buckling, twisting, cracking or otherwise deforming exposed surface of pipe. For railing posts set in concrete, install as indicated or provide preset sleeves of steel, not less than 15" long and inside dimension not less than 1/2" greater than outside dimensions of post, with steel plate forming bottom closure. Plug one end of sleeve and weld on rebar hairpin or straight anchor. Where verticals are supported within pipe sleeve, secure in place'with non -shrink grout. Railing terminal ends (not against walls) shall be radiused. Installation/Execution: Perform cutting, drilling and fitting required for installation of handrails and railings. Set railings accurately in location, alignment and elevation, measured from established lines and levels and free from rack. Do not weld, cut or abrade surfaces of railing components that have been coated or finished after fabrication. Field welding shall comply with the following requirements: 1) Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals. 2) Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. 3) Remove welding flux immediately 4) At exposed connection, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so that no roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches those adjacent. Anchoring Posts: Anchor as indicated or by means of pipe sleeves preset and anchored into concrete. After posts have been inserted into sleeves, till annular space between post and sleeve solid with non -shrink nonmetallic grout, mixed and placed to comply with the manuf. directions. Attachment of railings to walls: Attach. handrails to wall with wall brackets and end fittings. Provide brackets with not less than 1-1/2" clearance from inside face of handrail and finished wall surface. Locate brackets at spacing to support 250# force. Secure wall brackets to masonry using drilled -in expansion shield and concealed hanger bolts; in wood use lag bolts set into wood blocking between studs. Aluminum Ramp System: As manufactured by "UNIVERSAL RAMP SYSTEMS" (800) 648-3696 Ramp sections shall be designed for a minimum uniform live load of 100 pounds per square foot and a concentrated vertical load of 300 pounds distributed uniformly over an area of l square foot. Ramp sections shall be all aluminum construction alloy 6063-T6. All fasteners shall be stainless steel. All ramp sections shall be designed for variable heights and slopes. ramp section width shall be 48" clear between railing. The walking surface of the ramp shall be continuous, without gaps and shall be extruded, nonskid aluminum. all ramp sections shall have a 6" high curb once a vertical height of 4" is exceeded. Landings shall be pre -manufactured, size as indicated on drawings. Legs shall telescope to allow for height and slope adjustment. The legs shall swivel so that they are always perpendicular to the ground and the load remains vertical regardless of slope. All legs shall have 6"x 8" foot pads which shall be securely bolted to paving surface. Handrails shall be aluminum construction alloy 6063-T6 with anodized Alcoa #204-111 finish. Handrails shall comply with requirements of USPS Re4. DIVISION 06 06101 -CARPENTRY All work shall be in accordance with the latest adopted edition of the (UBC) Uniform Building Code. Lumber: Framing lumber such as studs, plates, caps, nailing strips shall.comply with NFO (National Forest Products Association) WCD I (Manual for Wood Frame construction, Data 1). Lumber shall be surfaced four sides. All continuous sills in contact with concrete shall be pressure treated. Casework shall comply with WIC standards, Custom grade or better. Plywood : PS -1 (US Department of Commerce Product Standards, Construction and Industrial Plywood). Building Paper: FS UU-B-790, Type I, Grade D, Style 1. Rough Hardware: All joist hangers, post base and plywood clips shall be equal to "Simpson Strong -Tie Company" and in accordance with ICBO UBC. Rough hardware exposed to weather or embedded in or in contact with preservative treated wood, exterior masonry or concrete walls or slabs shall be zinc -coated. Bolts, Nuts and Studs: ANSI B 18.2.1, ANSI B 18.5.2.1 M. ANSI B 18.5.2.2M, ANSI B 18.2.2 and ASTM A687 Toggle. Fit framing lumber and other rough carpentry, set accurately to the required lines and levels and secure in place in a rigid manner. Do not splice framing members between bearing points. Provide as necessary for the proper completion of the work all framing members not indicated or specified. At wood frame ramp provide 4X members for support posts and 2x8 SS for beams. Nailing shall be in accordance with the Nailing Schedule contained in ICBO UBC. Wall Framing: Select studs for straightness and set plumb and in alignment. In walls and partitions more than eight feet tall, provide horizontal bridging at not more than eight feet on center using 2 inch material of the same width as the studs. Studs shall be spaced at 16 inches on center. Double stud at jambs and heads of openings and triple stud at corners to form corner posts.. Frame corner posts to receive sheathing, lath and interior finish. Toe -nail studs to sills or sole plates with four 8 -penny nails or fasten with metal nailing clips or connectors. Plywood sheathing: Install plywood perpendicular to supports. End joints shall be located over the centerline of supports. DIVISION 07 07900 - SEALANTS Provide sealants, joint fillers and caulking that are compatible with one another and with the joint substrates. Colors of exposed sealers shall match adjacent material surface color. Sealants shall be chosen as applicable to use by manufacturer. Elastomeric Joint Sealants. Latex Joint Sealants Acoustical sealants for concealed joints. DIVISION 08 08110 - STEEL DOORS & FRAMES Steel doors and frames shall comply with the Steel Door Institute recommended specification standards. Standard steel doors: SDI 100, Grade II, Model 2. Fill hollow steel exterior doors with insulation. All others to have Kraft honeycomb cores. Louvered doors shall have sight proof louvers which shall be sized to match existing. Louvers shall be installed per SDI -I I IC. Standard Steel Frames: SDI 100. Form frames to sizes as required, knock -down field assembled corners, 14 gauge. Form stops and beads from 20 gauge steel. Hardware preparation: prepare doors and frames for hardware, in accordance with the applicable requirements of SDI 107 and DRI AI 15.1, DHI Al 15.2, DHI A115.4. All doors shall be primed and painted to match existing. 08211 - WOOD DOORS Wood doors shall be equal to "Haley"; "Truline Maunf." Redmon, OR, or "Graham Manuf. Corp." Solid Core Doors: Conforming to NWWDA l.S.-1 and WIC Standards. 1-3/4" minimum thickness. Stile and Rail Doors: 1-3/4" minimum thickness. Stain grade veneer. Panels - 1/32" plain sliced stain grade veneer, laminated to formed particleboard. Glazing: 1/4" thick, clear, tempered. All adhesives shall be Type 1, fully waterproof cross-linked PVA. Machine doors for hardware and fit to frames using guidelines of WIC and D.H.I. 08410 - ALUMINUM DOORS & FRAMES Aluminum materials and components shall be equal to "Kawneer Co." or "U.S. Aluminium Corp" Scope of work is based upon the Series 350 doors and the TIFAB 11 400 framing system as manufactured by the "Kawneer company Inc" Materials for framing members shall be extruded aluminum, alloy 6063-T5 and tempered (ASTM B 221 alloy G.S. I OA -T5). Fasteners, where exposed, shall be aluminum or stainless steel. Perimeter anchors shall be aluminum or steel, providing the steel is properly isolated from the aluminum- Glazing gaskets shall be EPDM elastomeric extrusions. The framing system at all single acting entrance frames shall include the Sealair positive barrier weathering All exposed surfaces shall be free of scratches and other serious blemishes and shall receive either a "Kawneer" # 17 Clear or #40 Dark Bronze or #29 Black Anodic Coating. Installation: Anchor components to structure, adjust for plumb, level and true to line.
