Please be assured that our only intention is to review the plans due for submittal and to have the corrections addressed sufficiently to issue a permit to progress the work: The intention is not to issue more citations to your aunt as we have not issued any further citations during the plan check process. However, this does not preclude us from issuing citations for the existing violations as every day is a separate violation. A failure to resubmit plans in a timely manner could result in additional citations. An inquiry with Building & Safety revealed Robert Alcumbrac, 760-343-0048, submitted plans on October 15, 2008 and they were returned on October 24, 2008 as the submittal was incomplete and did not include structural. calculations. They were resubmitted on November 10, 2008 and returned on November 24, 2008 with corrections.. The Correction List on this submittal is attached for your review. Your architect has had the corrections for over thirty (30) days and has not resubmitted. If there are general questions related to the permit, you and/or your architect can inquire directly with A.J. Ortega at 760-777-7018. If there.are more specific questions regarding the structural corrections, you can inquire directly with John Thompson of Young Engineering Services at 760-360-5770 at his Palm Desert office or at 760-404-9556 at his Washington office as noted on the Correction List. It is not uncommon for Cities.to contract for some or all plan check services. will schedule the case for a reinspection on January 16, 2009. I am out of the country until January 5th but have email available. ( . I have been in touch with both my contractor (Daniel Eads) and architect, Bob Altembruk (I am not sure how he spells his name) - and both tell me that try as they might, the folks at the permit office (A' Mr. Johnson) have been most difficult to deal with. At one point Mr. Altenbruk tells me he was told that his plan was "Approved" but "out for review (By a contrator who does this for the city). That sound suspicious to me ---if the plan is approved, why can he not get a permit? The entire process is beginning to strike me as some sort of purposeful bureaucratic delay with the point of - who knows what - creaiting fruther "Discrepancies?" so my aunt will get more fines? My contractor and architect tell me that their continued contact with the officials at the city preclude/prevent you from taking further fining action since we are obviously engaged in a sincere attempt to correct the "discrepancies" you have already cited us for. Please confirm that this is the case. My aunt (who will be 99 next month) is curerntly hospitalized with a broken hip, so I am not anxious to visit her with further difficulties. Obviously she is in no position to respiond to any further correspondence from you, so if you have anything to tell her that requires action,. please do me the favor of telling ME so I can deal with the matter. I would greatly appreciate it if you would relate to me what the difficulty is with getting our permit to make roof repairs so that the home will cease being a source of difficulty. This problem has been ongoing for several months, and - as I stated above - is causing me to distrust the motivation of the city. I am hopeful that you can explain what has been going on (if you can find out) and convince me that what is happening is, in fact, a valid problem. We are incurring expenses to get a permit - and will incur added costs to repair the roof. I can see no reasonable excuse for the difficulties my agents (contractor and architect) are experiencing.
