It is supplied in 5 -gallon (18.9 L) pails and 55 -gallon (208 L) drums and has a shelf life of six months when stored at temperatures between 50°F and 80°F (10°C and 26.7°C). Application of the coating must occur at ambient temperatures of 60°F (15.6°C) or above. 2.2.2.2 LF -1000 Acrylic Roof Coating: LF -1000 Acrylic Roof Coating is a polymer -latex -based coating and is brush-, roller- or spray -applied over the foam plastic insulation. The coating is supplied in 5- and 55 -gallon (18.9 and 208 L) containers and has a shelf life of one year when stored at temperatures between 50°F and 85°F (10°C and 29.4°C). 2.2.2.3 Diathon Coating: Diathon coating, recognized in ER -3129, is a single component, 100 percent acrylic elastomer coating. For all four insulation systems, Parts A and B are mixed at a ratio of 1:1 by volume. The products are available in 55 -gallon (208 L) containers and have a shelf life of six months when stored at temperatures between 50°F and 80°F (10°C and 26.7°C). Insulation components are identified as indicated in Table 1. The foam plastic insulations have a flame -spread rating of 75 or less when tested in accordance with UBC Standard 8-1 at ? a maximum thickness of 1.5 inches (38 mm) for FE -303 and 2 inches (51 mm) for FE-303CD, FE -314 and Premium Polymers 241. 2.2.2 Coating: Topcoats recognized in this report for use in the Foam Enterprises roofing systems include Foam Enterprises OF -1000 Acrylic Roof Coating, Foam Enterprises LF -1000 Acrylic Roof Coating, United Coatings Diathon (ER -3129), and LaPolla Industries Therm -0 -Flex. 2.3 Preparation of Substrates: 2.3.1 General: The substrates to be covered must be free of all grease, oil, loose particles, moisture, and other foreign materials. All parapet surfaces, valleys, etc., must be flashed and counterflashed as required by the code. Areas not receiving a polyurethane foam plastic insulation application must be masked off or otherwise protected from overspray. 2.3.2 Noncombustible Substrates: Noncombustible cementitious decks must be thoroughly cured and must have a surface pH level not higher than 11 prior to application of foam plastic and coating. Allowable types and required design loading of the substrates must comply with the code. See Table 2 for additional information. 2.4 Foam Plastic Application: The polyurethane foam plastic insulation described in Table 2 is applied to the substrate prepared in accordance with Section 2.3, using foam -spraying equipment approved by Foam Enterprises, Inc. Application of the foam plastic is prohibited if substrate temperature is less than 50°F (10°C), /CC -ES legacy reports are not to be construed as representing aesthetics or any other attributes not specifically addressed, nor are they to be construed as an endorsement of the subject of the report or a recommendation for its use. Copyright © 2005 Page 1 of 4 Page 2 of 4 if ambient temperature is less than 50°F (10°C), or if wind speed is above 15 miles per hour (24.1 km/h). The foam insulation shall not be applied to wet or damp substrates, or when precipitation is expected prior to completion of the foaming operation. Foam plastic is applied in minimum'/2-inch-thick (12.7 mm) passes, to reach the desired thickness as noted in Table 2. The total finished thickness must be achieved within the same day. Flash passes of less than'/, inch (6.4 mm) thickness are not acceptable in the top layer. The finished surface of the foam must be smooth and free of voids, pinholes and crevices, with a maximum allowable roughness defined as coarse orange peel. The normal color of the sprayed foam is tan. Improper proportions of foam components will result in foam with a very light or dark brown color. The spraying operation must be done so that enough material is placed to wet the surface, without running or sagging. The wetted surface must be allowed to foam completely before the second layer is applied; this requires 30 to 60 seconds. The foam is sprayed uniformly to a smooth, even surface, free of ridges, bumps or depressions. Work must proceed so that the desired thickness is achieved as soon as possible. Excessive thicknesses that are built up too fast in air temperatures above 120°F (49°C) or material temperatures above 150°F (65'C) may result in discoloration and weakening of the foam insulation and possible spontaneous combustion. 2.5 Application of Coating: The foam insulation surface must be dry and free of all degraded foam, dirt and foreign material before application of the coating. If the foam insulation is damaged to the point where cracks, voids or large depressions appear, additional foam insulation must be applied to create a satisfactory surface. After the foam insulation has developed sufficient strength to support foot traffic, but within 72 hours, the coating is spray -applied at the application rates noted in Table 2. The temperature of the coating must be maintained above 45°F (7.2'C). The ambient temperature must be 32°F (0°C) or above during coating application and 32°F (0-C) or above for the 24-hour period after application. The coating shall not be applied when dew, condensation or precipitation is expected. Refer to Figure 1 for additional information. Roof areas that will be subject to foot or maintenance traffic must be protected from wear or damage by an approved means. 2.6 Identification: Each container of polyurethane foam plastic insulation bears a label with the Foam Enterprises, Inc., name and address, the product name, the evaluation report number (ICBO ES ER -5513), the shelf life and the date of manufacture. The containers also bear the label of the quality control agency, ' Underwriters Laboratories Inc. ER -5513 OF -1000 Acrylic Roof Coating and LF -1000 Acrylic Roof Coating are labeled with the Foam Enterprises, Inc., name, the product name, the date of manufacture, the shelf life, the name of the quality control agency (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.), and the evaluation report number (ICBG ES ER -5513). Diathon Coating is labeled in accordance with ICBG ES evaluation report ER -3129: Therm -O -Flex Coating is labeled with the LaPolla Industries, Inc., name, the product name, the date of manufacture, the shelf life, the name of the quality control agency (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.), and the evaluation report number (ICBG ES ER -5513). 3.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICBO ES Acceptance Criteria for Membrane Roof -covering Systems (AC75), dated April 2001, and the Acceptance Criteria for Foam Plastic Insulation (AC12), dated September 2000; installation instructions; and quality control manuals. 4.0 FINDINGS That the Foam Enterprises, Inc., roofing systems described in this report comply with the 1997 Uniform Building CodeTM', subject to the following conditions: 4.1 All material is applied by factory -trained personnel approved by Foam Enterprises, Inc. 4.2 Materials and installation comply with this report and the manufacturer's instructions. 4.3 Where moderate or heavy foot traffic occurs for maintenance of equipment, or is otherwise necessary, the roof covering shall be adequately protected to prevent rupture or wearing of the surface. 4.4 The roof -covering systems described in this report are limited to installation in areas subject to a maximum basic wind speed of 80 mph (129 km/h) on buildings a maximum of 40 feet (12 192 mm) in height, in Exposure C zones. 4.5 Roofing classification is as set forth in Table 2. 4.6 The polyurethane foam plastic insulation components are manufactured in Houston, Texas, under a quality control program with inspections by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (AA -668). The topcoats are manufactured in Greenacres, Washington, and Tempe, Arizona, under quality control programs with inspections by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (AA -668). This report is subject to re-examination in one year.
