11. Description: A. Two-piece Mission Tile: The tiles are composed of
vitrified clay, machine formed and kiln fired to various temperatures for
different burnt -on colors. Top and pan tiles are curved to approximately
one third of a circle and have widths at the large and small ends of approxi-
mately 81/2 and 7 inches, respectively. An attachment hole Is provided at
the small end of the top tile and in the large end of the pan tile. Tiles are
approximately 1/2 -inch thick, 20 inches long and are installed with a hori-
zontal spacing of maximum 11 inches with a minimum headlap of 3 in-
ches. The tiles have a vertical exposure of 17 inches and have an Installed
weight of 10.7 psf. The tile may be used to trim hips, ridges and rakes,
provided they are embedded in mortar or roofing mastic. Minimum
1/2 -Inch -thick plywood or complying solid sheathing nailed In accordance
with the code is required for all roof slopes. Flashing must comply with
Chapter 15 of the code. Where used, mortar must comply with Chapter
21 of the code for Type 0 mortar. Tiles in contact with mortar, are Im-
mersed in water for two minutes prior to placement. See Figure 1 for flash-
ing details.
B. Two-piece Bala Mission Tile: The tiles are similar to the two-piece
Mission tile except that the widths at the large and small ends are approxi-
mately 63/4 and 6 inches, respectively. Tiles are Installed identically to the
two-piece Mission the except the horizontal spacing is 9 Inches with a
minimum headlap of 3 inches. The installed weight of the tiles, when
installed at a horizontal spacing of 9 Inches and a minimum headlap of
3 inches. is 9.4 pounds per square loot.
C. 'S' Tile: The tiles are manufactured in the same manner as the two-
piece Mission tiles except they are 18 inches long, 12 Inches wide and
/2 -inch thick, with two nail holes in the pan side and one nail hole In the
cover side. various accessory tiles are available for ridges, hips and rakes.
The Installed tile weight is approximately 9 pounds per square loot when
installed with an 11 inches on center spacing and a 3 -Inch head lap. Mini-
mum 1/2 -inch -thick plywood or complying solid sheathing nailed In ac-
cordance with the code is required for all roof slopes. Flashing must com-
ply with Chapter 15 of the code. Where used, mortar must be Type 0, and
tiles in contact with mortar must be Immersed In water for two minutes
prior to placement. See Figure 2 for details.
D. Eurobala Tile: The tiles are manufactured in the same manner as the
two-piece Mission tile except they are flat pan shaped with two side lips
which flare out. The tiles are 171/2 inches long, 63/4 Inches tapered to 61/4
Inches wide, 1/2 inch thick and 2 Inches in height to the outer edge of the
side lip. An attachment nail hole is located approximately 2 Inches from
the head and the nose. The cover tile and pan the are the same except that
the nail holes are located on opposite ends. The installed weight is approx-
Imately 9.9 pounds per square foot when installed with 9 inches on center
spacing and a minimum 3 -inch head lap. See Figure 3 for details.
E. Roman Tile: The tiles are similar to the Eurobaja tile except they are
173/4 Inch long, 11 Inches wide, 5/e Inch thick and 23/8 inches in height
to the outer edge of the side lip. Two attachment nail holes are located
approximately 1112 Inches from the file head and spaced 51/4 Inches apart.
The cover tile and pan tile aie the same except that the nail holes are
located on opposite ends. The tiles are Installed In the same manner as the
Eurobala tile. The Installed weight of the tiles Is 10.1 pounds per square
foot when Installed at a horizontal spacing of 18 inches on center with a
minimum headlap of 3 Inches. See Figure 3 for details.
F. lightweight 'S' Tile: The tiles are similar to the regular weight 'S' rile
except they are 13 Inches wide and 3/8 -Inch thick. They also have two nail
holes In the pan side and one nail hole in the cover side. The tiles are in-
stalled in the same manner as 'S' Tiles. Installed rile weight is 5.9 pounds
per square foot with an 11 inches on center horizontal spacing and a
3 -Inch head lap.
G. Installation: Each file is nailed at all roof slopes with minimum No.
11 gage, corrosion -resistant roofing nails with sufficient length to pene-
trate 314 inch Into or through the thickness of the sheathing, whichever is
less.

comply with Chapter 15 of the code.. Where used, mortar must comply
with Chapter 21 of the code for Type 0 mortar. Tiles in contact with mortar
are Immersed in water for two minutes prior to placement.
1. Slopes less than 3:12: The tile is considered only as decorative ma-
terial and must be Installed over an approved roof covering complying
with'lhe code, subject to approval of the building official.
2. Slopes 3:12 to 7:12: Underlayment of not less than two layers of
Type 15 felt or one layer of Type 30 fell is applied in accordance with the
code. Underlayment for severe climate areas must comply with Table
15-0-1 of the code. A 1 -inch by 2 -Inch cant strip is placed at the eave and
fastened to the sheathing with 5d corrosion -resistant common nails. Each
tile Is fastened to the sheathing with one No. 11 gage corrosion -resistant
nail of sufficient length to penetrate 1 inch into the sheathing or through
the thickness of the sheathing, whichever Is less. Approved tile ties may
be used as alternates.
3. Slopes 7:12 to 21:12: Installation details are identical to those de-
scribed previously except that each life must be fastened with a tile lock
assembly recognized in Evaluation Report No. 3362. See Figure 1.
Each Lightweight'S'tile is fastened with Iwo No. 11 gage corrosion -re-
sistant roofing nails In compliance with Table 15-D-1 of the code for these
roof slopes.
H. Identlllcatlon: Each file is embossed with the name Redland, Mexi-
co, and Redland. Mexico L.W. (for Lightweight 'S' Tile). In addition, each
pallet Is Identified with the evaluation report number, the manufacturer's
name, product name, and Installation Information for the Lightweight 'S-
Fraluation rrport of ICRO F.raluasion Service, Inc., are luted salely to provide information to Clatr A mrmbrrt of ICRn, utiliring the rode upon which the report
