I. Afetal includes any field -fabricated product with metal cladding. Kon -metal framed
manufactured fenestration products with metal cladding must add 0.03 to the listed U -
value. Non -Afetal frame types can include metal fasteners, hardware. and door thresholds.
Thermal break product desicn characteristics are:
a. The material used as the thermal break must have a thermal conducti-tity of not
more than 3.6 Btu-inch/hr/ft2t'F,
b The thermal break must produce a cap of not less than 0.210". and
c Ail metal members of the fenestration product exposed to interior and exterior air
must incorporate a thermal
break meeting the criteria in (a) and (b) above. In addition, the fenestration product
must be clearly labeled by the manufacturer that it qualifies as a thermally broken
product in accordance «•ith this standard.
2. For all dual .-lazed fenestration products, adjust the listed U -values as Follows:
a. Subtract 0.05 for spacers of 7/16" or m.ider.
b. Subtract 0.05 for products certified by the manufacturer as low -E glazine.
c_ Add 0.05 for products %,-ith dividers between panes if spacer is less than 7/16' wide.
d. Add 0.05 to any product xvith true divided lite (dividers throueh the panes).
U Note- - U-values/Operator rapes: The default U-volue of a fenestration product changes
based ort the operator t}pe. For example- a sliding-type windotr will have a different U -value
rhan a f red nvindow that is otherwise identical (see Table 2-6)
As the U- volae, orientation, tilt, shading device, solar !tear gain coeff7cient, overhang and fan
eonfguration are all input variables, it is recommended that each window of a building be
entered into MICROPAS individually.

Glazing Area The area for ElazinL or fenestration products is calculated from the nominal (e 5030) or
tough opening dimensions.
Doors -
Any door having glass must be entered in MICROPAS as glazing area. For any door .with an
I`NFRC rating (doors with nrore than 50 percent of their surface area made up of glass), the
entire area of the door must be entered in IMICROPAS as glazing area. since the product
rating is for the entire door. For doors with 50 percent or less of their surface area made up of
class enter either the entire door arca as glazing or the actual arra of glass plus a two inch
frame extending on all sides (the remaining door area is modeled as an OPAQUE SURFACE.
The U -value and solar heat gain coefficient of the door is taken from Table 2-6 and Table 2-7
or manufacturer data.
Greenhouse (garden) Windows: Greenhouse window Llazins area is calculated using the
rough opening for the unit (see Figure 2-23). The typically higher U -value of greenhouse
%%indow-s accounts for additional heat loss from the projecting top, sides and bottom of the
unit.
Glazing Orientation Orientation (azimuth) for fenestration products is always relative to the designated -front-
orientation (referred to as the Plan Azimuth) (see Table 2-1). The designations 'Richt' and
I -eft' are from the perspective of someone outside, facing the front of the house. Also see

80% AFUE At Budget Price
Carrier provides an 80% Annual
Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE)
Ps furnace for the budget conscious
consumer and builder. The 58PAV
offers the same high quality you
demand and receive from Carrier.
The cabinet is constructed from a
specially selected galvanized steel.
There is also double protection for the
cabinet. First, a galvanized steel
substrate provides resistance to rusting.
Then the cabinet is constructed of
prepainted steel — the same high-
quality finish found on refrigerators
and dishwashers.
The 58PAV offers a hot surface
Ignition system which provides a
superior and more reliable ignition
system than older spark relight
systems.
The heat exchangers are
constructed of aluminized steel and
covered by a 20 -year Limited
Warranty. They are Carrier's
patented Super -S heat exchangers
that improve heat transfer and enable
downsizing of this furnace to only
40 -in. tall.
To improve the sound level, we
have incorporated a soft mount
inducer assembly and a slow opening
gas valve.
The control board is the brain of
this induced -combustion gas furnace.
It offers a unique self -test feature
that checks all the major functions of
the furnace within 1 minute- The
control board also features a 3 -amp
fuse that protects the transformer
and control board. Another feature
on.the control board is a LED status
indicator light to ensure top furnace
performance.

80% AFUE At Budget Price
Carrier provides an 80% Annual
Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE)
gas furnace for the budget conscious
consumer and builder. The 58RAV
offers the same high quality you
demand and receive from Carrier.
The cabinet is constructed from a
specially selected galvanized steel.
There is also double protection for the
cabinet. First, a galvlanized steel
substrate provides resistance to
rusting. Then the cabinet is constructed
of prepainted steel — the same high-
quality finish found on refrigerators
and dishwashers.
The 58RAV offers a hot surface
ignition system which provides a
superior and more reliable ignition
than older spark relight systems.
The heat exchangers are constructed
of aluminized steel and covered by a
20 -year Limited Warranty. They are
Carrier's patented Super -S heat
exchangers that improve heat transfer
and enable downsizing of this furnace
to only 40 -in. tall.
To improve the sound level, we have
incorporated a soft mount inducer
assembly and a slow opening gas
valve.
The control board is the brain of
this induced -combustion gas furnace.
It offers a unique self -test feature
that checks all the major functions of
the furnace within I minute. The
control board also features a 3 -amp
fuse that protects the transformer
and control board. Another feature
on the control board is an LED status
indicator light to ensure top furnace
performance.

Air Conditioner
Sizes 024 thru 060
Model 38BRC Energy- Efficient Air
Conditioner incorporates innovative
technology to provide quiet, reliable
cooling performance. Built into these
units are the features most desired by
homeowners today, including SEER
ratings of at least 12.0 when used with
specific Carrier indoor sections. All
models are listed with UL, c -UL, ARI,
CEC, and CSA-EEV. The 38BRC
meets the Energy Stars- guidelines for
energy efficiency.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Electrical Range — All units are
offered in single phase 208/230v. The
38BRC 036 through 060 models are
offered in 208/230v 3 phase.
Wide Range of Sizes —Available in 6
nominal sizes from 024 through 060 to
meet the needs of residential and light
commercial applications.
Compressor — This unit features a
scroll compressor. This compressor is
significantly more efficient than
conventional compressors. Its simple
design offers improved reliability.
Each compressor is mounted on rubber
isolators for additional sound
reduction. The scroll compressor
will start under most system loads,
minimizing the need for start
assistance components. For improved
serviceability, the 024 through 042
models are equipped with a
compressor terminal plug. Continuous
operation is approved down to 55°F
(12.8'C) in the cooling mode. (See
cooling performance tables.)
Operation down to 0°F or –20T is
approved when low -ambient
requirements are met.

Heat Pump
Sizes 018 thru 060
The 38YRA Outdoor Sections of
Split -System Heat Pumps are
designed for quiet, reliable heating
during the winter and cooling during
the summer. These heat pump
systems provide economy of
operation through energy
conservation with SEER up to 14.0

heat for indoor comfort from outdoor
air during the heating season and, by
automatically reversing the
refrigerant system, remove indoor
heat and excess humidity during the
cooling season. All models are 208/
230v, single phase, .60 hertz, and are
listed with ARI, UL, c -UL, and CEC.
CARRIER'S TECH2000
