MaxdPanel Exterior Siding and Soffit Products.
10 DESCRIPTION
2.1 General:
MaXiPanel exterior wall siding is a noncombustible fiber -cement flat sheet
material and incudes MaxdPanel, MaxiSoffit, Max iplank and MaxdBacker
Products. The product Is composed of cement, silica sand.and cellulose
fibers and is available with s. smooth or wood grain exterior surface. The
products can be cut with a,power saw using a masonry, carbide- or dia-
mond -tipped blade, hand gidllotina or knife available from the manufac-
turer.
MaxdPanel and MaxdSoffil are flat sheet materials used for siding on
exterior walls and soffits. MaxiPlank is a lap siding board manufactured in
6-,71/2-,8'4-,91/2-, and 124nch (152,191, 210, 241 and 305 mm) widths
and is used for exterior wall siding. MaxdBacker is a smooth floor and wall
We backer board with square or recessed edges.
Nominal dimensions are fisted in Table 1, maximum wind loads are listed
in Table 2 and shear values are fisted in Table 3.
2.2 lnstallatlon:
221 General: The framing assembly components are sized and
constructed to meet local building code requirements and in aomdance
with the framing manufacturers latest printed specifications. Wood fram-
ing is spaced amaximum of 181nches oncenter. Steel framing is minimum
No. 20 gage (0.035 Inch) spaced -at 164nch or 244nch centers.
22-2 MaxdPanel and MardSoML* MaxdPanel and MaxiSoffit are installed
in accordance with the manufacturers instructions on wood or metal fram-
ing designed to meet the code. One-quarteranch-thick panels are limited
to 164nch stud spacing in wood or metal framing. For wood studs, 4d gal-
vanized box nails (0.094nch-diameter shank, 0218 -inch -diameter head,
1.5854nch length) spaced at 6 inches on center are used to fasten the
panel. For metal studs, RPI C -Drill No. 8 by 114 -inch (minimum) self-dril-
Ong and self -embedding screws spaced at 6 inches on center are used.
Fasteners are placed aminimum of 2 inches from corners and %inch from
edges. See Figures 1, 2 and 3 for details.
Panels are joined over framing. A gap of approximately 1110 inch is
allowed between panels which is caulked with an approved exterior latex
caulk. See Figures 4 and 5 for jointing methods.
Metal or wood stops and flashing are fastened at all comers and open-
ings.
When installed as noted in this section, the panels comply with Section
1402.1 of the code.
223 MaidPlank: MaxoPlank is installed in accordance with the manufac-
turer's instructions on wood or metal framing designed to meet the code.
A.weathel-resistive barrier complying with Section 1402.1 of the code is
installed over the,framing. Fasteners are used at each stud. Fasteners
placed less than 2 Inches from the ends of planks are predrilled For
exposed fastening on wood studs, 6d galvanized common nails or No. 11
gage [0.125 -inch (3.18 mm) Shank diameter, 02754nch-diameter (6.98
mm) head, 2.087 inches (53 mm) long) roofing nails are used through both
over- and underlapping planks. For metal studs, RPI C -Drip No. 8 by
I%4nch self -drilling and self -embedding screws are used. See Figures 6,
7 and 8 for details.
For concealed fastening No. 11 gage by 11/44nchor No. 11 gage by
10/4 -inch galvanized roofing nails for wood studs and RPI C -Wing No. 8 by
11/4 -inch self -drilling and self -embedding screws for metal studs are used.
The fastener is installed through the top of the undertapping plank only.
See Figures 9 and 10 for do tuts.
a Two adjacent planks butt jointed together are centered over a No. 26
gage galvanized steel joint plate. A small gap is left between planks and
(filed with anapproved structural grade caulking. See Figures 11,12 and
13 for details. Vertical joints are staggered a minimum of two feet from adja-
cent courses. Plank overlap is varied to s4the particular height of the wall
with a minimum of 194 inch.

minimum 3/44rich exterior grade plywood subfloor, mechanically attached
to floor joists. The total floor system.is designed so that maximum deflec-

accordance with the code MaxdBadker is fastened with No. 11 gage by
11/4 -inch galvanized roofing nade or No. 8by 11144 C -Drill screws. Nails
or screws are spaced at 6 inches on -center around the perimeter and in
the field, minimum 3/e4nch from edges and 2 Inches from comers. A
Ile -inch gap is left between board and walls to allow for expansion.
For wall applications; MaxdBacker is installed as outlined in Section
22.2.
2.3 Identification:
2.3:1 MaxlPanel: Each panel is marked with the product name, thickness
and lot number. Each pallet containing 50 sheets of 1/44nch, 50 sheets of
s/10 -inch or 40 Sheets of ?/ts4nch MaxdPanels bears a label indicating the
name and address of manufacturer, product designation, evaluation report
number (ICBG ES ER -5139), lot number, and the name of the quality con-
trol agency, Ramtech Laboratories, Inc.
2.3.2 MaxlPlank: One plank In each der is marked with the product name
and lot,number. Each pallet containing 312 planks 6 inches (152 mm) wide,
252 planks 71/2 inches (191 mm) wide, 228 planks 81/4 inches (210 mm)
wide, 190 planks 91/2 inches (241 mm) wide or 160 planks 12 inches (305
mm) wide, is labeled with the name and address of the manufacturer, prod-
uct designation, evaluation repot number (IC80 ES ER -5139), and the
name of the quality control agency, Ramtech Laboratories, Inc.
