The product is composed of cement, silica sand and cellulose fibers and is available with a smooth or wood grain exterior surface. The products can be cut with a power saw using a masonry, carbide- or dia- mond -tipped blade, hand guillotine or knife available from the manufac- turer. MaxiPanel and MaxiSoffit are flat sheet materials used for siding on exterior walls and soffits. MaidPlank is a lap siding board manufactured in �. 71/r, 8114-, 911r, and 12 -inch (152,191, 210,241 and 305 mm) widths and is used for exterior wag siding. MaxiBacker is a smooth floor and wall - tile backer board with square or recessed edges. Nominal dimensions arefisted in Table 1, maximum wind loads are listed in Table 2 and shear values are.fisted in Table 3. 2.2 Installation: 221 General: The framing assembly components are sized and constructed to meet local building code requirements and in accordance with the framing manufacturer's latest printed specifications. Wood fram- ing is spaced a maximum of 16 inches on center. Steel framing is minimum No. 20 gage (0.035 inch) spaced at 16 -inch or 24 -inch centers. 222 MaxiPanel and MaxiSoffit MaxiPanel and MaxiSoffit are installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions on wood or metal fram- ing designed to meet the code. One -quarter -inch -thick panels are limited to 164nch stud spacing in wood or metal framing. For wood studs, 4d gal- vanized box nails (0.094nch-diameter shank,'0218•inch-diameter head, 1.585 -inch length) spaced at 6 inches on center are used to -fasten the panel. For metal studs, RPI C -Drill No. 8 by 114 -inch. (minimum) self -dril- ling and self -embedding screws spaced'al 6 inches on center are used. Fasteners are placed a minimum of 2 inches from corners and 3/e inch from edges. See Figures 1, 2 and 3 for details. Panels are joined over framing. A gap of approximately 1/16 inch is allowed between panels which is caulked with an approved.exterior latex caulk. See Figures 4 and 5 for jointing methods. Metal or wood stops and flashing are fastened at all corners and open- ings. When installed as noted in this section,. the panels comply with Section 1402.1 of the code. V Building Officials . Aweather-resistive barrier complying with Section 1402.1 of the code is installed over the framing., Fasteners are used at each stud. Fasteners placed less than.2 inchestfrom the ends of planks are predrilled. For exposed fastening on wood studs,4d galvanized common nails or No. 11 gage (0.125 -inch (3.18 mm) shank diameter, 0275 -inch -diameter (6.98 mm) head, 2.087 inches (53 mm) long) roofing nails are used through both over- and undedapping planks. For metal studs, RPI C -Drill No. 8 by 1%inch self -drilling and self -embedding screws are used. See Figures 6, 7 and 8 for details. For concealed fastening No. 11 gage by I%4nch or No. 11 gage by 19/4 -inch galvanized roofing nails for wood studs and RPI C -Wing No. 8 by 11/4 -inch self -drilling and self -embedding screws for metal studs are used. The fastener is installed'through the top of the underlapping plank only. See Figures.9 and 10 for details. Two adjacent planks butt jointed together are centeredover a No. 26 gage galvanized steel idnt.plate. A small gap is left between planks and filled with an approved structural grade caulking. See Figures 11,12 and 13 fa details. Vertical joints are staggered a minimum of two feet from adja- cent courses. Plank overlap is varied to suit the particular height of the wall witha minimum of 1114 inch. Metal or wood stops and flashing are fastened at all corners and open- ings. 2.2.4 Maidbacker: In flooring applications, Maxibacker is installed over minimum %-inch exterior grade'plywood subfloor, mechanically attached to floor joists. The total floc system is designed so that maximum deflec- don in a plane, including live and dead`ioads, is 1AW of the span, in accordance withthe code. MaxiBaclker is.fastened with No. 11 gage by 11/4 -inch galvanized roofing nags or No. 8 by 11/44nch C -Drill screws. Nails or screws are spaced.at 6 inches on -center around the perimeter and in the field,.,minmum ale -inch from `edges, and 2 inches from corners. A 1/9-,inchgap is left between board and walls to allow for expansion. For wall applications, MaxiBacker is installed as outlined in Section 22.2. 2.3 Identification: 2.3.1 MaxiPanel: Each pant is marked with the product name, thickness and lot number.
