Members Present: Lary Allen, Mike Lewis, Larry Stevens, Steve Kochell,
Doug Brown, and Al Cablay
Members Absent: Chairman Bund and Martin Beck (one vacant position on the
Crnmittee)
Meeting called to order at 3:05 p.m.
Review of itens of interest fran Novenber 8, 1984 meeting minutes.
Stop signs at Avenue 50 and Washington St. (4-way) mentioned (will be discussed
more later).
Lt. Lewis discussed the increase in traffic citations and the holiday drunk
driving program. He also discussed the "geo-file" for dispatching.
Discussion on John Bund's menu to the City Council. Lary Stevens stated that
we do need a Traffic Safety Committee. Al Cablay discusses Palm Desert's
Traffic Safety Committee's operations.
Larry Allen discussed how agenda items of the City Council do not keep coming
up for review and sometimes get buried.
Extended discussion on composition and purpose of the Traffic Safety Committee.
Extended discussion on the four-way stop sign at Washington St. and. Avenue 50.
Ca[mittee was generally in favor of studying the warrants for the stop signs,
but did not feel the methodology of leaving it up (Council decision.) was
appropriate.
Discussion on Avenue 50 and Eisenhower Drive being made a four-way stop.
Discussion on future speed survey and a traffic study in early 1985.
Turn pocket into Plaza La Quinta will be done upon next development in that
center.
City of Indio is installing a street light on the southeast corner of Miles and
Jefferson.
Al Cablay mentioned he has had problems with the construction zone along
Eisenhower and Washington St. Larry Stevens mentioned city efforts and problems
encountered on that project and efforts to correct them.
Discussion on traffic signals.
Secretary Brown announced his resignation fran the Traffic Safety Carmittee
effective January 1, 1985. Larry Stevens indicated that he would assume the
Traffic Safety Committee functions.
