H. BUSINESS ITEMS:
A. Presentation by artists Alber DeMatteis and Kim Emerson on the status of the
Fritz Burns Park.
1. The Committee iiscussed with the artists the new location acid layout of
the Aquatic Building and the proposed location for the artwork. Mr.
DeMatteis stated that the towers were to be more free-form in the
children's pool, with the pool in a more triangular shape. The gate would
be located on the east side of the building by the ticket booth and
concession window. This would put it in the public view at all times.
The gate was I:o remain closed except for special sporting events.
Committee Members asked about the fence that would attach to the gate.
It was explained that the fence would be a temporary fence until the City
was able to build. the next phase of the Park. It was suggested that animal
cutouts be applied to the fence to blend it with the gate.
2. Committee Member Wolff asked why the trellis feature was riot included
as she felt the shade at the entrance was more important than over the
towers. Mr. DeMatteis explained that it was felt the shade structure
would not blend in with the building as the project was not complete and
half of the shade structure would be hanging by itself. Members
discussed with the artists the shade portion of the towers. Following the
discussion it was determined that the Committee wanted the shade
structure with the copper treatment to stay a part of the towers.
