Samples were sent to a NAVLAP accredited laboratory, L.A. Testing, of South Pasadena, CA — Lab code 200232-0. They were analyzed by Polarized Light Microscopy according to Bulk Analysis Protocol EPA 600/R-93/116. The laboratory report is attached to this message for your inspection Site: . This structure is a single family residence with a freestanding outbuilding and a swimming pool. The materials that were suspected of possibly containing asbestos were the wallboard and taping compound, stucco, and roofing. These materials were sampled, and the samples sent to LA Testing laboratory for analysis by Polarized Light Microscopy. Results: The only material to test positive for asbestos was the joint compound in two of the bedrooms and the bar. Therefore all of the joint compound in the structure is considered positive, and must be removed prior to demolition by certified workers. The wallboard and taping compound in the small outbuilding do not require removal. 5. The quantification of the asbestos must be checked before bidding. It was arrived at by multiplying the approximate number of square feet in the structure by 3.2 . Procedure: The removal of the wallboard and taping compound is simple and straight- forward. But the protection of the workers from the asbestos in the air requires covering the floor and furniture with plastic sheeting, using protective clothing and respirators, and employing huge exhaust fans to keep the air inside pure enough to breathe No guarantees are offered or implied.
