Acro Bond .440/442 is an elasto-
meric acrylic latex system con-
sisting of a base coat and a finish
coat.
Acro Bond 440 base coat is formu-
lated to have exceptional adhesion
to urethane foam and a variety of
other substrates. It is tinted a light
blue to provide a contrasting color.
This aids the applicator in obtain-
ing uniform coverage and
specified mil thickness.
Acro Bond 442 finish coat forms a
tough flexible membrane for the
protection of urethane foam.
The integral system has excellent
adhesion, fire retardance and
weatherability to provide long-term
protection of polyurethane foam.
FEATURES

Acro Bond 440/442 has excellent
resistance against ultraviolet deg-
radation, extreme - temperatures,
oxidation and all forms of water.
t
Fire Retardant
Acro Bond 440/442 has UL 790
Class A ratings over al variety of
polyurethane foams.
Acrylic Elastomer
Economical
The ' Acro Bond system is the
lowest cost per mil in Futura's
elastomer line designed for ure-
thane foam protection. In addition,
no costly solvents are required in
reducing, thinning or clean-up.
High Build
The thixatropic nature of Acro
Bond 440/442 provides the ability
to apply the necessary thickness
with ease, even on rough or ver-
tical surfaces without pinholing or
sagging.
Convenient Application and
Clean -Up
Due to the single package, water
based nature, Acro Bond 440/442
Provides convenient applications
and easy clean-up.
High Solids
More economical and efficient
coverage is derived from high solid
properties in coatings. Higher
solids provide greater coverage
per gallon which subsequently
leads to lower shipping costs,
faster application rates, and lower
labor costs. There is also less
shrinkage of the film resulting in
better film integrity.
Adhesion
Acro Bond 440 Blue Base contains
adhesion promotors which ac-
count for its unique adhesion
characteristics to urethane foam.
Single Package
Provides convenient application
without worries of pot life, special
equipment, mixing or extra labor.

URETHANE FOAM ROOFING SYSTEM
SOUTHWEST DISTRIBUTING COMPANY

1. Subject: Urethane Foam Roofing System.
11. Description: A. General: The roof covering consists of applying to
the substrate a prime coat of SWD-1000 reduced to 10 to 15 percent solids
with kevione solvents. Wood substrates need not be primed if the moisture
content is 16 percent or less. Next, the SWD-525 urethane foam is applied
by simultaneously spraying two liquid components, A and B. onto the
prepared substrate at a ratio of 50-50 by volume. The final minimum
density of the foam is 1.8 per. The thickness of the foam may he 1 inch to 4
inches. The foam is then covered with a cold application coating of
SWD-I929F elastomeric acrylic coating. For thicknesses up to 4 inches,
the S11'D-525 urethane foam has a flame -spread classification of 1. Compo-
nents A and B have a shelf life of six months.
B. Installation on New Substrates: All material shall be applied only by
applicators approved by the Southwest Distributing Company. The material
is applied over V2 -inch -thick Exicrior.glue plywood installed in accordance
with Chapter 25 of the code or noncombustible cementitious substrates such
as concrete or gypsum. All joints of the plywood arc backed with nominal
2- by 4 -inch wood. All parapets, crickets and valleys shall be flashed in
accordance with Section 3203 (d) of the code.
The substrate to be sprayed must be free of grease, oil, moisture, loose
particles or other foreign materials. Prior to application of the foam, the
substrate is primed when necessary as described above, by spray with the
primer SWD-1000 as described above, at the rate of I gallon per 300 square
feet. The primer is applied at a minimum temperature of WE, and shall be
allowed to dry for one-half hour before the foam is applied. The two -
component foam is applied to the primed substrate when the ambient
temperature is within the range of 40`F. to 120"F. The foam shall not be
applied when wind velocities are greater than 10 to 15 miles per hour unless
adequate wind barriers are provided: nor shall it be applied N•hcn prccipita.
tion is expected. All primed substrates must be clean of material as for
unprimcd substrates, before foam is applied.
Tte equipment utilized to spray the foam shall he capable of metering the
two components on a 50-50 basis by volume. The normal color of the foam
is light tan. Should the equipment fail to meter the components properly.
foams of dark amber color will result. Both components should have a
temperature above 70°F. at the time of application. The foam spraying
operation should he done so that enough material is laid down to wet the
surface without running or sagging. The wetted surface should be allowed
to foam completely before a second layer is applied which usually takes 20
to 30 seconds. The work should proceed so that the desired thickness is
achio-cd as quickly as possible before moving to another area.
The foam insulation is covered within five days with a finish coat of
S\k'D-I929F elastomeric acrylic coating that is spray applied or 'roller
coated at the rate of 21/ gallons per 100 square feet. This is done in two
applications and the final total minimum thickness of dry film solids shall
be 20 mils.
C. Installation Over Existing Roofs: The urethane roofing system
described above may readily he installed over an existing roof covering
haying a 1,12 -inch -thick solid plywood substrate and an asphalt shingle or
built-up roof covering. Wood shake or shingle or other types of roof
coverings are not acceptable.
Prior to proceeding with the installation of the sprayed foam membrane,
the substrate is to be prepared to assure proper adhesion. All loose roof
coating, white cementitious material, loose gravel, dirt, debris must be
removed by means of scraping, stiff brooming or by power vacuum.
Damaged flashing, gravel stops and roof jacks are to be replaced. New and
existing flashing and roof jacks are to be webbed off with glass tape and roof
mastic. Blisters in existing composition roofing ace to be cut open, nailed
down and scaled. Cracks or tears in the felts are to be %&,ebbed off with glass
tape and roofing cement. Curled asphalt shingles are to be either removed or
nailed to the deck. All projections through the roof deck are to be scaled
with roof mastic. Particular care is to be exercised to seal under all roof -
mounted equipment with cold process asphaltic products and prevent roof
depressions when it is not feasible to spray foam.
Actual spray application of the foam is to be subject to the same precau-
tions listed under "Installation On New Substrates." On flat surfaces, the
foam may be built up to provide a slope to assure adequate drainage. Before
the application of the acrylic finish coating, all vents must be checked to
ensure they are not plugged by the urethane foam.
D. Identification: All drums and containers for the material shall be
ideritified by the Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (AA -523) label and the
following:
The prime coat shall be labeled: SWD-1000, ICBO Research Report No.
3182.
The two -component SWD-525 urethane foam as manufactured by

The Elastomeric Acrylic coating as manufactured by Southwest Dis-
uibuting Company shall be labeled SWD-1929F-Rk-318?.
III. Evidence Submitted: Installation instructions and reports of tests
on bond. impact, weathering and fire rctardancy per U.B.C. Standard No.
32-7 have been submitted.
Findings
IV. Findings: That the Urethane Foam Roofing System described in
this report is a fire -retardant roof system complying with the 1979
Uniform Building Code, subject In the following conditions:
1. All material is applied by trained personnel approved by the
Southwest Distributing Compan%.
2. Where moderate or heavy foot traffic occurs. such as for mainte-
nance of equipment, the roof system shall be adequately pro-
tected to prevent rupture or Nearing of the surface.
3. The roof slope dues not exceed 4:12.
4. Application complies with this report and the manufacturer's
instructions.
