The next regular meeting of the Community Services Commission will be held on
February 12, 2017, commencing at 5:30 p.m. at the La Quinta Study Session Room,
78495 Calle Tampico, La Quinta, California, 92253.

La Quinta, do hereby declare that the foregoing Agenda for the La Quinta Community
Services Commission meeting was posted on the City’s website, near the entrance to
the Council Chambers at 78-495 Calle Tampico, and the bulletin boards at the Stater
Brothers Supermarket at 78-630 Highway 111, and the La Quinta Cove Post Office at

• The La Quinta Study Session Room is handicapped accessible. If special equipment is
needed for the hearing impaired, please call the Community Resources office at 760-777-
7106, twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the meeting and accommodations will be
made.
• If special electronic equipment is needed to make presentations to the Community
Services Commission, arrangements should be made in advance by contacting the
Community Services office at 760-777-7106. A one (1) week notice is required.
• If background material is to be presented to the Commissioners during a Commission
meeting, please be advised that eight (7) copies of all documents, exhibits, etc., must be
supplied to the Secretary for distribution. It is requested that this take place prior to the
beginning of the meeting.
• Any writings or documents provided to a majority of the Commissioners regarding any
item(s) on this agenda will be made available for public inspection at the Community

CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the La Quinta Community Services Commission was called to
order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Chiapperini.
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Commissioners Quill, Van Horn, Wyler and Chair Chiapperini
ABSENT: Commissioner Marley
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Van Horn led the Commission in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PUBLIC COMMENT ON MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA
• DESERT RECREATION DISTRICT (DRD) FACILITY LOCATED AT 77865 AVENIDA
MONTEZUMA
PUBLIC SPEAKER: Karen Vielhaber asked for clarification regarding DRD’s relationship
and function with the City. Ms. Vielhaber wanted to understand why both facilities,
DRD and the City’s Wellness Center, provide similar community programs.
Staff explained that the City and DRD partner to provide community programs that
would otherwise not be possible with one facility.

1. RECOMMEND A RECIPIENT FOR THE 2018 SENIOR INSPIRATION AWARD
MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Quill/Wyler to
recommend Pat Clapp for the 2018 Senior Inspiration Award. Motion passed: ayes 4,
noes 0, absent 1 (Marley).
2. RECOMMEND COLOR SCHEME FOR RAINBOW STRUCTURE AT FRITZ BURNS PARK
MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Quill/Wyler to
recommend to Council the City’s 25th Anniversary color scheme. Motion passed: ayes
3, noes 1 (Van Horn), absent 1 (Marley).
3. APPOINT COMMISSIONERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
EVENT
MOTION – A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Wyler/Van Horn to
appoint Commissioners Van Horn and Wyler to participate in the Christmas Tree
Lighting event. Motion passed: ayes 4, noes 0, absent 1 (Marley).
CONSENT CALENDAR
1. APPROVE MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2017
MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Van Horn/Quill to
approve the September 11, 2017 Community Services Commission minutes as
submitted. Motion passed: ayes 4, noes 0, absent 1 (Marley).
2. APPROVE MINUTES OF OCTOBER 9, 2017
MOTION - A motion was made and seconded by Commissioners Van Horn/Quill to
approve the October 9, 2017 Community Services Commission minutes as submitted.
Motion passed: ayes 4, noes 0, absent 1 (Marley).
COMMISSIONER’S ITEMS
Commissioner Quill reported a resident’s suggestion to add more Pickleball courts.
The resident reported that the pickleball courts at the Fritz Burns Park are not enough
to accommodate the number of players during peak playing time. After discussion,
there was a consensus among Commissioners that staff will monitor the pickleball
usage over a one year period to identify a need for more pickleball courts.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, it was moved and seconded by Commissioners
Quill/Chiapperini to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 p.m. Motion passed: ayes 4, noes 0,
absent 1 (Marley).
