PUBLIC NOTICES
The La Quinta Study Session Room is handicapped accessible. If special equipment
is needed for the hearing impaired, please call the City Clerk's office at 777-7123,
twenty-four (24) hours in advance of the meeting and accommodations will be

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW:
As part of the Annual Work Plan, representatives from local agencies have been asked
to present information regarding valley -wide services and services specifically in La
Quinta.
Ms. Judy May, Community Relations and Program Director for INCIGHT, has been
invited to attend the meeting to provide the Commission with information and answer
questions. INCIGHT offers resources and services to empower people with disabilities.
The City has provided funding through the Community Services Grant Program to
support this non-profit organization.

Ms. Burkett stated"that thefimission has been in their new building just over a year
and is currently hou'sin 225 guests of which 18 are children. Christmas meals
were served to a rozimatel 25,000 people over a four da

serves a minimum of 600 meals per day.
Commissioner Blakeley asked how long guests can reside at the mission. Ms.
Burkett stated residents can stay for up to one year.
Commissioner Lawrence asked how much it costs to operate the facility. Ms.
Burkett stated the mission has a $3.7 million dollar operating budget.

Appoint two Commissioners to assist the Civic Center Art Purchase Committee to
select Civic Center Art during the La Quinta Arts Festival.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Civic Center Art Purchase Committee selects art work from the La Quinta Arts
Festival ("Festival"). The availability of original artwork provides an opportunity to
purchase unique pieces for the City's Art in Public Places collection. Staff
recommends the appointment of two Community Services Commissioners to assist in
the selection of art at the Festival.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An amount of $10,000 has been budgeted in the Civic Center Art Purchase Account.
BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS:
The Festival will be held from March 7 through March 10, 2013 at the Civic Center
Campus. Since 1989, with the exception of 2004 and 2005, the City has been
selecting artwork from the La Quinta Arts Festival to be displayed at various City
facilities. Two City Council Members, with the assistance from two Community
Services Commission members, view the artwork at the Festival for consideration an
art purchase. In 2012, Commissioners Blakely and Fitzpatrick were selected from the
Community Services Commission to assist the City Council members that served on
the Committee.
Historically, the Art Purchase Committee has met the first day of the Festival to select
artwork for the City with the artwork being delivered to the City after the Festival.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Staff is requesting the assistance of two Commissioners to assist staff for the
upcoming event. Staff requests support in promoting recreational activities to the
public by promoting services in the Community Services booth.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS:
The Birthday Party and Community Picnic will be held on April 27, 2013, from 9 a.m.
to 12 p.m. at the Civic Center Campus. The Commission, as part of their work plan,
will assist staff by distributing flyers, maps, brochures, and give-away items to
participants as well as answer questions about city services and facilities.

Parks Activities Updates
For December 2012
Six Tipuana trees have been planted around the City Hall building. These
trees were planted to replace the Palo Verde trees that were damaged during
the November 9, 2012 high wind event. Annually, funds are budgeted in the
parks account to replace trees that are damaged throughout the parks during
wind storms.
