I have been asked by D G H Development to certify a modest change to the standard single family dwelling he has
been building up in the cove for some time now. This plasn is one that I personally provided the structural analysis
for. D G H is proposing to add one truss bay to the 40' span trusses going over the main portion of the house. This
change increases the area of the diaphragm in question from 1,040 s.f. to 1,120 s.f. This constitutes a 7% increase
in area. In turn, applying a 7% increase to the walls directly affectred by this change results in the following:
Wall A: goes from 6,401 lbs. To 6,849 lbs. (from 173 plf to 185 plf) which is still less than the wall's capacity
Wall D: goes from 3,410 lbs. To 3,649 lbs. (from 110 plf to 118 plf) which is still less than the wall's capacity
Wall F: goes.from 2,948 lbs. To 31154 lbs. (from 268 plf to 287 plf) which is still less than the wall's capacity
Wall G: goes from 4,968 lbs. To 5,316 lbs. (from 276 plf to 295 plf) which is still less than the wall's capacity
All aspects of the project's structural system have been observed by me many times and I have found it to
be in substantial conformance with the structural design intent of the construction documents and based
upon my investigations of the current calculations 1 find this one time change for a particular client of D G H
Development to be within an acceptable range that will not adversely affect the structural as it is currently
designed.
